Subject: [ANNC]: UBLish v1.0.10 UBL schema generator available for download
Date: 2004 Oct 14 On this World Standards Day, it is my pleasure to share with you the availability of UBLish v1.0.10, a UBL schema generator application. The UBLish package has the following functions: + you can generate UBL schemas based on source inputs directly from UBL spreadsheet models, or generate customized schemas with modified configuration parameters, + you can perform element or type queries, or search for certain element or type with partial knowledge of their names, and then retrieve from your preloaded set of schemas, + you can mix and match UBL schemas, UBLish generated schemas, or other sources of schemas, by loading them into UBLish system memory for subsequent element and type resolution. In other words, if you have schemas from other sources and wish to reference them in your customized model spreadsheet, it is possible to load the schemas so that UBLish resolves towards your schema types. The UBLish package has the following package features: + it is open-scripted; the source script is the program as well as the coding documentation available for viewing and inspection, + it is customizable; if the urge is there, one can add/remove/ debug/change features using XPS programming language and observing the simple license on derivation works, + it is free-of-charge; there's no need to pay for it whether you're commercial or non-commercial, individual trial or organizational deployment, + it carries a 20-month development work to-date, and had produced the published, normative UBL 1.0-beta schemas released in 2003 Nov (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ubl/lcsc/UBLv1-beta/), + it has helped uncover some major and minor issues in other UBL distributions, including UBL 0p70 (2003 Jan), UBL 1.0-cd (2004 May), and UBL 1.0-cd2 (2004 Sep). UBLish v1.0.10 package can be downloaded from: http://SoftML.Net/jedi/ubl/sw/UBLish/UBLish-1.0/download/UBLish-v1.0.10.zip (about 1.4MByets) Just unzip this archive into a directory (without spaces), say "C:\Work\UBLish-v1.0.10". The XPS application itself is found inside ".\bin\UBLish-v1.0.10.xps". It may look like a blend icon if you haven't installed XPS runtime engine. If you haven't installed XPS v3.4p (the run-time engine), you'll also need to click on: http://SoftML.Net/xps/download/link/xps-v3.4p-ZMJAN5YlnG55Lufb.zip (about 3.7MBytes. The XPS is SoftML's company product and is separately licensed, and because of this, my apologies that it cannot be wrapped into the UBLish package as one. The v3.4p public version, however, is an inexpensive run-time engine. Your generous support will help to encourage the company to fund further work in UBLish.) Once you've installed the run-time engine, you'll see the UBLish application appearing as a red inverted 3D prism. You're ready for it! To test and see if you have installed XPS & UBLish properly, just run UBLish and select the "Spreadsheet-->Schema" menu, and then select "Generate Entire Schema Set at one go". After answering "Yes" to the prompt "Erasing All Generated Schema" (because the package comes with pre-generated schemas), you will find UBLish whizzing away showing progress in generating schemas. There's also a short movie page showing UBLish in action. You can find it at: http://SoftML.Net/jedi/ubl/sw/UBLish/UBLish-1.0/pics/UBLish-v1.0.10-Demo.avi (about 4MBytes, 57secs long playtime). UBLish stickers, baseball caps with UBLish logo, etc are sold separately when available .... I'd like to acknowledge Stephen Green, Tim McGrath, UBL TC, and many other users of earlier versions of UBLish who had generously given their feedbacks and comments. Thanks! Have a great day at your local celebration parties for World Standards Day! Best Regards, Chin Chee-Kai SoftML Tel: +65-6820-2979 Fax: +65-6743-7875 Email: cheekai@SoftML.Net http://SoftML.Net/
