Subject: Re: [ubl-dev] When using Genericode Code lists...

Looking at the OASIS Context/Value Association file in this directory:

https://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/csprd02-UBL-2.2/cva/

... you can see how UBL 2.3 references all of the code lists in other releases, for example:

      <ValueList xml:id="AllowanceChargeReason-2.0"
                 uri="../../os-UBL-2.0/cl/gc/default/AllowanceChargeReasonCode-2.0.gc"/>
      <ValueList xml:id="AllowanceChargeReason-2.1"
                 uri="../../os-UBL-2.1/cl/gc/default/AllowanceChargeReasonCode-2.1.gc"/>
      <ValueList xml:id="AllowanceChargeReason-2.2"
                 uri="../../os-UBL-2.2/cl/gc/default/AllowanceChargeReasonCode-2.2.gc"/>
      <ValueList xml:id="AllowanceChargeReason-2.3"
                 uri="../cl/gc/default/AllowanceChargeReasonCode-2.3.gc"/>

...

<Context values="AllowanceChargeReason-2.0 AllowanceChargeReason-2.1 AllowanceChargeReason-2.2 AllowanceChargeReason-2.3"
               metadata="cctsV2.01-code"
               address="cbc:AllowanceChargeReasonCode">
         <Annotation>
            <AppInfo>
               <c:DataType>Allowance Charge Reason_ Code. Type</c:DataType>
            </AppInfo>
        </Annotation>
      </Context>

... and it is summarized in the HTML report:

https://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/csprd02-UBL-2.2/cva/UBL-DefaultDTQ-2.2.html

I hope this helps. It is good to see these questions come to light as it is often a challenge to find all of the details in the documentation (which is sad, since I'm responsible for the documentation!):

UBL 2.3 draft (and come to that UBL 2.2) ZIP contain a list of those gc files that changed from the previous list, NOT the complete list. So the 2.3 draft list is:-

AllowanceChargeReasonCode-2.3.gc

BinaryObjectMimeCode-2.3-incl-deprecated.gc

CountryIdentificationCode-2.3.gc

LanguageCode-2.3.gc

PackagingTypeCode-2.3-incl-deleted.gc

TransportEquipmentTypeCode-2.3.gc

UnitOfMeasureCode-2.3.gc
BinaryObjectMimeCode-2.3.gc

ChannelCode-2.3.gc

CurrencyCode-2.3.gc

PackagingTypeCode-2.3.gc

PaymentMeansCode-2.3.gc

TransportModeCode-2.3.gc

UnitOfMeasureCode-2.3-incl-deleted.gc

and yet 2.0 shipped with 89 code lists just in cl/gc/default, and then there are two other cl/gc directories. Are all the old 2.0 gc files to be ignored?

David,

the GenericCode lists are generated from the latest source (outside of UBL TC control) at the moment of publication of a new UBL version. So no need to combine from all past releases.

Also keep in mind that they are there as a "suggestion" and you are free to use whatever codelist you want for your own specific implementation.

Its up to the original codelist maintainers to define the depreciation policy .. and that is outside of the scope of the UBL TC.

should the current list of code be generated from merging all the files from all releases (from 2.0 on) or should I be using just the most recent version? Also some of the files mention in their

file names that they include deprecated codes, what is the deprecation policy and therefore when will they be removed?
