Subject: Message from the UN/CEFACT FMG
Hello UBL TC, Sue Probert, our liaison with UN/CEFACT TBG, has conveyed this invitation (item c below) from the UN/CEFACT Forum Management Group (FMG) meeting 29-30 January. We will be discussing a response to this during our TC plenary Thursday morning in McLean. Item d relating to UNeDocs is included for your information because UBL shares a strongly document-oriented view of data with UNeDocs and might therefore live in the same TBG working group. Jon ================================================================== c. UBL FMG agreed on to invite UBL to become part of UN/CEFACT. It was recognized that good relations and cooperation exist with UBL even though there are some technical differences. The link is already established and one idea would be to integrate UBL into the work that is done in ATG2 and TBG. It will be discussed how the group will be inserted in the current structure: if it will be created as a subgroup in ATG or, if possible, to have one UBL group of people working in TBG and a second group in ATG. FMG recognizes that UBL v1.0 is a finalized version and the future work will be based in a totally new version of UBL (version 2.0). It was considered an important activity to contact the people that had left the group and to invite them to rejoin the work with UN/CEFACT. The vice-chair will inform to FMG on results. Mike Crawford is considered a key person on UBL and he should be contacted. d. UNeDocs Project proposal was sent on 1st of January 2005 and it was agreed at the Forum in Washington that UNeDocs would be one of the projects to develop, especially considering that the UK government is highly interested on to have it in the market as soon as possible. It will be created a new TBG group and List-Server named "UNeDocs" to carry out the administration of this project. Mike Doran and Jean Kubler will be directly working in this project. A presentation of the project will be carried out in next Forum in Kuala Lumpur. The FMG understands that the project is not only document centric; also it includes the development of models with UMM.
