Subject: Re: [ubl] [GC] Additional metadata

i agree this sounds like precisely the things we need. of course, the
actual metadata avilable is constrained by what the code owners
themselves publish.
in this case the UN/ECE only publish the 2 and 3 digit code NOT the
symbol. Someone would have to match up symbols with codes (the actualy
ISO 4217 code list is not free). I am not sure we want the
responsibility of doing this.
having said that there is an follow on argument that we should include
ALL metadata the official code owners publish. after all, why should we
make decisions about what to leave off?
in UBL 2.0, the genericode files mainly contained just the code and a
description - just so some kind of lookup functions could work. but as
we are seeing there is more valuable information to potentially go in
there. we have been discussing the UNLOCODEs and I am proposing
including all metadata published in our updated genericde file. we
could be the same for currency (and add the 2 digit code). but the
process has to be the look at what the agencies we state as maintaining
the code provide and work with those.
