Subject: Re: [ubl] Groups - Chairman’s executive summary from the 30th MoU/MG meeting 10-11 April 2013 uploaded

I was not at the meeting but i understood there was discussion about ISO 15000 parts 1-4 (maintained by OASIS) and ISO clarified OASIS's options to create full International Standards.  At the same time ISO (in TC 154) are moving the Core Component Technical Specification (15000-5) to also be an International Standard.

My understanding is that the new International Standard 15000-5 will be more generic in nature and backward compatible with the current ISO 15000-5 Technical Specification.  So it will have no technical impact on the work of UBL - UBL will remain compliant to ISO 15000-5.

For the benefit of others (i know Andy knows this), the ebXML packages known as the ISO 15000 series were never International Standards (A normative document, developed according to consensus procedures, which has been approved by the ISO membership and P-members of the responsible committee in accordance with Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directives as a draft International Standard and/or as a final draft International Standard and which has been published by the ISO Central Secretariat), they have been ISO Technical Specifications - "A normative document representing the technical consensus within an ISO committee".  That is the equivalent of an OASIS Committee Specification.  Under ISO rules after a period of time Technical Specifications need to either expire (and be withdrawn) or move to full International Standards.  It sounds like both ISO and OASIS want to make their parts International Standards.

The Business Process Specification Schema (now known as ebBP) was not initially submitted by OASIS to ISO but it appears that 15000-6 is a placeholder for that.  The TC is visible at https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=ebxml-bp

Is that what you were asking?

Tim,

Can you shed any light on one item:

Members welcomed the strategy for updating the ISO 15000 series of ebXML standards, and were

invited to participate in the development of the new CCTS Part 5.  Updated versions of the first four

parts will be provided by OASIS with a view to adoption as IS in parallel with the existing TS

documents, and a further part 6 on Business Process Specification Schema.

In particular regarding the Business Process Specification Schema?

Thanks,

Andy Schoka
