After discussing this further with Dee, we've resolved
that the focus of the talk/demo can indeed be on UDDI - there would be
significant value in this. This is not to say that we can't fit in WSDM or
others in the mix also if possible.
Bottom line, it's time
to make more noise and articulate what enterprise business analysts, architects, developers and
operations staffs have concluded: registry is and must be a core component
of the SOA infrastructure they deploy and build upon. Registry and the Web
services registry standard - UDDI - has established itself as the single-most
important enabler of the service-oriented enterprise; we all know this, so let's
communicate it.
Let's revive the interop demo activity
we had been working on in early Nov of last year. I realize that we ran out
of time then but perhaps we can pull it off this time. I'd ask that Daniel and
Claus who had been working on this last forward the two proposals we had
discussed, and determine which one we can revive in time for an
interop.
Dee suggested that we hold two sessions: 1) a What
is UDDI session and 2) the demo. It is tbd whether we'd do this as two
1-hour sessions or a single session. I'd be happy to present the What is
UDDI session and help make the demo a reality. If you would like to
participate in the demo, please speak up ASAP; if you cannot attend the call
tomorrow because it is so short noticed please communicate your interest over
mail.
The conf call tomorrow will be hosted by me at
07:00PST. Here are the call details:
Toll: 706-643-6177
Tel: 888-502-0190
conf#: 618893763
The goal: determine if we have sufficient participants
to make this a reality; whether we think we can come to consensus quickly;
whether we can commit the resources necessary to produce a compelling
talk/interop demo. We need to come out of this meeting with that consensus
.
All invited. Dee will be in attendance as well as
Ian Bruce, Systinet Mktg Director who will help us with promotion and the
marketing "stuff".

Dee and I have spoken on this. I'll be following up with a
mail to the TC in two-hour.
My take (which Dee can freely override) --
--
One spec is fine. We *had* talked about some interesting and compelling
multi-spec demo possibilities, but that's opportunism not necessity
talking. For the sake of getting the word out, my personal take is that we
should err on the side of doing a UDDI-only demo, which is still
under-appreciated, soon, rather than miss a good opportunity now in order to try
to devise a perfect one.
-- I think we're hoping for one
good demo, not several, through there is no rule about this.

Dee and Jamie,
Can you clarify what you are looking for in a demo?
Is the intent to demonstrate interoperability across several Web service
specifications or is it sufficient to demonstrate interoperability of one
specification? Also, will there be more than one demonstration of OASIS
specification interoperability at this event?
