Subject: FYI: Seconding motions
Hi folks, I just remembered that one of the outstanding action items I ended up with (because I asked about it in the first place) was the necessity to have a seconder for a motion based on the size of the assembly. It was thought that perhaps a motion needn't be seconded if there weren't a lot of people. According to what I found in RROR Art. I Sect. 5, most motions should be seconded and the only aspect of seconding related to the size of the assembly is the obligation for the seconder to stand while making the motion in a large assembly and to address the chair as "Mr. Chairman". :{)} There is a list of motions not requiring to be seconded, interestingly not including the motion to adjourn which I always thought didn't need a seconder. A note is made that motions in Congress are not required to be seconded. .............. Ken -- G.
