Subject: RE: [ws-caf] [Bug 224] New: Mandate WSDL and SOAP?
Dear Colleagues, One can test for use of SOAP so we could make use of that mandatory, but I think it would not be wise to mandate that alone when there may well be other viable options better suited to certain situations. So I would prefer us to Recommend SOAP as the option to be implemented for interoperability, but not make that the only conforming option. Use of WSDL is certainly useful but how does one test for its use? In other words how to you distinguish a 'conforming' implementation that was put together using Web Service description(s) from one that was not? I think we should only mandate things that are testable (in general, I have been known to be a bit flexible on this question where it seems to make sense to bend a little) and perhaps a Recommendation is more in order again. Product: General Version: 1.0 Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: Text and diagrams AssignedTo: ws-caf@lists.oasis-open.org ReportedBy: mark.little@arjuna.com QAContact: mark.little@arjuna.com When producing the first editors draft of WS-CF, Eric asks the following question, which is based on text cut-and-paste from the WS-Context public review specification and thus is a more general question than just for WS-CF: "Whether WSDL is mandated or not seems related to the dependency on WSDL interfaces for defining operations, in any case I think it would be good to clear up the distinction between statements like WSDL isn't mandated yet there's a normative binding. Can we agree to mandate WSDL (and SOAP for that matter)?" ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.
