Subject: RE: [wsdm] ISSUE: MUWS should not define an element (or type) for IPAddress

Ok, sounds good. By copy to Heather, can we make sure this gets to be an action item for the primer?

I think it should be done in the primer since WSDM schema cannot/shouldnot/mustnot include anything defined in the CIM namespace since the spec dependency may be the other way.

RE: [wsdm] ISSUE: MUWS should not define an element (or type) for IPAddress

Igor, William,
I'm ok with this now that I understand the proposal. Is it ok if the document includes <cim:IPv6Address> as an example on how one would define IP Address? Or should this be done in the Primer?

RE: [wsdm] ISSUE: MUWS should not define an element (or type) for IPAddress

Tom, for example, CIM defines representation of an IP address. When translated into XML it will be something like <cim:IPv4Address>xs:string</cim:IPv4Address> and <cim:IPv6Address>xs:string</cim:IPv6Address>. Such elements may appear inside of the <wsdm:ComponentAddress> container (in the open content). This may provide for sufficient interoperability. It is not very clear that WSDM MUWS needs to define its own <wsdm:IPAddress> representation. It is not very clear that MUWS is the right place to do so. For example, MUWS does not define its own representation of the Web service endpoint reference, instead the WS-Addressing representation is used: <wsa:EndpointReference>. Why would it be different for the IP address?

RE: [wsdm] ISSUE: MUWS should not define an element (or type) for IPAddress

You have made a proposal to remove an element - IPAddress. This element has a high probability of being a commonly occuring address type for a manageable resource. I am asking you how you would achieve the same capability if it is removed. If you don't have an answer, end of discussion.

How do you represent a componentAddress if the addressability is an email address? A phone number? A postal address?

... but I don't mind MOWS doing it if we think it's appropriate.

As discussed on the call this morning, this is one of the problems with
the current proposal for the MUWS Event Format.
