Subject: [wsrp-wsia] RE: [wsrp-interfaces] RE: [wsia] Sessions

Title: Message
But in the latest proposal, there's no way for the Consumer to know which model the Producer uses, so it doesn't know whether to use a single session or to use multiple sessions.

Eilon - what part of the spec says that there was "THE session". The spec
allows for creating an arbitray number of sessions, already covers the
general approach.

Carsten,

I think where the confusion might lie is that the latest spec proposal uses
the approach that you outlined below: the portlet developer segregates its
information in the shared session. The other approach I outlined in the
document suggest that the portlet developer may want to use a completely
separate session per occurrence of a portlet. None of the approaches is
necessarily better (I outlined some of the pros/cons in the document).
However, we need to ensure that as we continue developing the spec, it will
allow the portlet developer to choose between those two options.

      Mike -
I agree with Eilon's conclusion to not enforce a maybe limiting
      session
sharing model in WSRP. If we allow the consumer to group portlets to
different sessions we have the best of the two worlds: if required
      portlets
can namespace data they do not want to share even if there is a
      shared
session. They either use a constant prefix or their entiy ID for
      this. Both
is possible without any modifications of the interface proposed in
      the
draft spec. Parameters they want to share are not prefixed at all or
      with a
prefix known to all participating portlets.

      Eilon,
Can you elaborate on your conclusion that we shouldn't enforce a
      model?
I am not really sure how we can have our cake and eat it too.  Either
      our
model requires a key or its doesn't or its a hybrid that allows both.
      I
would prefer not doing that later as it seems messy in the interface
      (and
      complicates it).

As promised (though a bit late) here is a sketch of my
      current
understanding of the notion of sessions.
