Subject: Public review comment: 10.4.1.1 Disallowed Tags
This section states that portlets MUST NOT use tags like body, head, frameset etc. There is a similar statement (SHOULD) in Sec 10.5 regarding use of CSS styles not specified in the spec. However, enforcing these requirements is not trivial, and has some expense (such as parsing markup, script etc.) involved. One example is producers acting as bridges between legacy applications and portals, and sites designed with no knowledge of portal semantics. In particular, the conformance test kit has tests to report assertion failures when a producer does not enforce these conformance requirements. I'm opening this comment to consider relaxing these statements to guidelines indicating that portlets not following these guidelines may not look/work correctly in various consumer applications.
