Subject: Approving WSRP v2 as an OASIS standard

As a result of a vote of the WSRP Technical Committee that closed on February 8, 2008, and is recorded in the Kavi system at http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsrp/ballot.php?id=1415, the chair hereby submits the Web Services for Remote Portlet v2.0 Specification (approved in a ballot recorded at http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsrp/ballot.php?id=1411) for consideration as an OASIS Standard.

In accordance with the process stipulated in the OASIS Technical Committee Process, the TC has published:
1.        A formal specification that is a valid member of its type
2.        Appropriate documentation for the specification
3.        A clear English-language summary of the specification

(a) This material, in the currently-recommended OASIS format, is available on the TC web site. The specification is composed of the following components:

(b) The editable version of the specification document is the HTML version.

(c) The HTML, schema and wsdl files have all been validated as well-formed documents of their type.

(d) Here is an English-language summary of this application:

WSRP version 2 extends the version 1 definitions to support more advanced use cases; namely:

WSRP version 2 consists of the following documents. WSRP version 2 schema, Dated: 28 January 2008: [ XSD (67 KB)]
WSRP version 2 portTypes, Dated: 28 January 2008: [ WSDL (36 KB)]
WSRP version 2 bindings, Dated: 28 January 2008: [ WSDL (36 KB)]

(e) The specification notes a number of standards developed at OASIS and other organizations that are leveraged by WSRP.

(f) Certifications of Use:
The chair is pleased to report that four OASIS organizational members have provided attestations with respect to successfully using WSRP v2, as required by the OASIS TC Process (emails with these attestations are captured in the TC's email archive with the relevant links provided below). In addition, the chair is also pleased to report that there are at least four known implementations of the WSRP v2 Committee Specification, each of which emanates from vendor organizations:
BEA -
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp/200801/msg00006.html
IBM -
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp/200801/msg00013.html
Oracle -

Vignette -
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp/200801/msg00014.html

(g) Public comments and resolutions:
The WSRP v2 Committee Specification (
http://docs.oasis-open.org/wsrp/v2/wsrp-2.0-spec-cd-05.html approved via http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsrp/ballot.php?id=1319) was submitted for public comment to the OASIS and XML-Dev memberships (http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp/200710/msg00020.html) on 31 October 2007. Comments and their resolution were captured on a wiki page which, a snapshot of which has been captured in http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsrp/download.php/27186/WSRP_v2_PR_Comments.zip.

(h) Committee Specification
The specification was approved as a Committee Specification in a ballot (
http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsrp/ballot.php?id=1411) which closed on 28 January 2008. This ballot had one non-vote and two abstains with the rest voting for approval. The abstains both commented on having not received an IPR statement from WebCollage (which had issued such a statement relative to WSRP v1). The TC has attempted to acquire such a statement from WebCollage, but had little leverage as WebCollage had not been involved in the effort to define WSRP v2 and was non-responsive to the Technical Committee's requests.

(i) History of previous OASIS standardization attempts
There have been no past attempts to submit WSRP v2 for OASIS standardization.

(j) Publicly visible comments archive
The WSRP TC committee and comment archives can be found at
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp/ and http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wsrp-comment/ respectively.

(k) There have been no minority reports received from Committee members nor statements that the specification has underlying technical issues or non-reviewed substantive changes.
