Subject: RE: [xacml] CD-1 issue #5: reverse order in <Match>
This is a small nuisance for some people, but probably not worth a change to the specification. Part of the problem is that <Apply> elements do not impose the same restriction. When I prepared an HTML view of policies that showed both <Match> and <Apply> conditions in the same format, one of the questions from users was why the order of arguments differed. I had to blame the syntax requirements. --Paul > -----Original Message----- > From: Erik Rissanen [mailto:erik@axiomatics.com] > Sent: Friday, September 11, 2009 08:09 > To: XACML TC > Subject: [xacml] CD-1 issue #5: reverse order in <Match> > > The issue number refers to the XLS-sheet found in this email: > http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xacml/200909/msg00013.html > > The commenter proposes that it should be possible to switch > the order between the <AttributeDesignator> and the > <AttributeValue> in a <Match>. > > The value of this is unclear to me since a match function > would be done either with an equality predicate, for which > the order does not matter, or with some pattern matching > function, in which case the pattern matching function would > have been designed so that the order between the pattern and > the value to be matched fit the required order in a <Match>. > I cannot think of any case where this would not work, but > maybe there is some case?
