Subject: Successful use of XLIFF 1.2
The purpose of this email is to forward a successful use statement of XLIFF 1.2 to the XLIFF TC mailing list, on behalf of Mr. Arle Lommel, Acting Chair, OSCAR, LISA. -----Original Message----- From: Arle Lommel [mailto:arle.lommel.lisa@gmail.com] On Behalf Of Arle Lommel Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 9:05 AM To: Schnabel, Bryan S; rmraya@heartsome.net Cc: tony.jewtushenko@productinnovator.com To whom it may concern, I am writing as acting chair of the Open Standards for Container/content Allowing Reuse (OSCAR) committee in the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA - http://www.lisa.org). I certify that two standards maintained by OSCAR currently use or require XLIFF 1.2 features: 1. The Global information management Metrics eXchange - Volume (GMV-X) standard, version 1.0 mandates that the source format for default GMX-V implementation is XLIFF 1.2, and a number of GMX-V features rely on XLIFF 1.2-specific features. These features were implemented under the assumption that XLIFF 1.2 would be promoted to be an OASIS standard. 2. The XML Text Memory (xml:tm) specification is designed to integrate with XLIFF 1.2 and borrows a number of features from XLIFF 1.2 for purposes of compatibility and ease of use. This reliance is explicitly stated in section 1 of the xml:tm specification. In addition to these standards that require XLIFF 1.2, LISA is currently revising a number of its standards for greater compatibility with XLIFF 1.2, so we anticipate that TMX 2.0 and TBX 2.0 will have explicit support for the XLIFF 1.2 inline markup model when they are released in the near future. We therefore strongly support the adoption of XLIFF 1.2 by OASIS as an OASIS standard and request that this action be taken. Best regards, Arle Lommel Acting Chair, OSCAR
