.html for his comments on XPointer, which like XRIs introduces some novel
syntax and makes use of balanced parens.
Someone asked if his statement that "there is no situation or context in
which it is appropriate for balanced parentheses to appear as a suggested
URI syntax" meant that XPointer should never be used. His answer was simply,
"Yes."

Subject: [xri] Interesting TAG thread on composable URIs
Interesting thread in the TAG group about "composable" URIs (URIs containing
URIs - thats *us* folks).
Specifically, Roy Fielding (at
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-tag/2003Jul/0013.html) says:
"
There is no situation or context in which it is appropriate for balanced
parentheses to appear as a suggested URI syntax. It is
the wrong choice in all circumstances.
Since this example is an http URI, it can easily be
http://www.foo.com/bar/baz.jar/COM/foo/Quux.xml#foo
"
A bunch more interesting opinions in that thread.
Its clear Roy Fielding will have issues with XRI. :-)
