Subject: XRI 1.0 Release Candidate 2 Underway
XRI TC Members: Per the email of last week, we were planning a call tomorrow for a final discussion of the 1.0 spec and a decision about going to a vote. However we received two key pieces of feedback about RC1: a) it would benefit from a brief discussion about the canonical form of an XRI, and b) Appendix B (the $ space) should be broken out into a separate specification for two reasons - 1) the uses of each branch of the $ tree should be explained in more detail, and 2) the $ space is likely to evolve quickly over the next year and thus will need revision more frequently than the main spec. The Editors discussed both topics at length and agreed with both suggestions. Canonical form text has already been drafted and is undergoing review on the Editor's SC list. Appendix B will be split out into a separate (short) spec tentatively titled the XRI Metadata Specification. We will make it another deliverable of the XRI TC in the January time frame. Because it will take until next Monday for the Editors to make and review all the changes, we are postponing the planned call and go-to-vote decision one week until next Thursday, Nov. 20th. The Editors are scheduling a final review call for next Monday afternoon and will post RC2 either late Monday or Tuesday morning. Since it will be substantially identical in content to RC1 with the exception of these two items, we believe it should be ready for a vote next Thursday. If you have feedback on RC1 but have not submitted it, please send it in ASAP so it can be incorporated into RC2.
