Subject: XRI TC Wiki & Start of CD02 Drafting Process

XRI TC Members and Observers (and other interested parties):

September is upon us, and with that, only six weeks remain until the
proposed Oct. 15 TC vote on the Committee Draft 02 specifications. As per
messages to the XRI TC list last week, members of the XRI Editor's
Subcommittee have been very busy assimilating feedback and preparing
proposals for revisions to the current Committee Draft 01 specs.

This work has now been organized and linked on the new OASIS XRI TC wiki at:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/FrontPage

Note that while this wiki is fully publicly readable, only XRI TC members
may edit it.

The wiki FrontPage has links to the three change management pages that have
been set up for each specification:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/SyntaxChanges
	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ResolutionChanges
	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/MetadataChanges

Each page tracks every proposed issue/change to each spec, plus any errata.
Both issues/changes and errata are divided into Open and Closed sections;
we're ready for the Committee Draft 02 vote when everything is moved to the
Closed section.

Each issue that requires more than a paragraph or two to explain has a
linked "proposal page". Note that not all the proposal pages have been added
yet; some are still in development. Right now the majority of the work is
going into the Resolution spec, since this has the greatest number of
proposed revisions. In particular, two Word documents have been uploaded to
the TC detailing specific proposals:

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/14296/local-and-proxy-reso
lution-proposal-v1.doc explains in words and pictures the proposal for
making XRI resolution infrastructure fully backwards-compatible with HTTP
URI infrastructure. It is referenced by the Resolution proposal page at
http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ReSolution/I8ResolutionRefactor.

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/14297/xri-synonym-refactor
ing-proposal-v1.doc explains the rationale for refactoring the current
Synonym element in XRIDs (a very knotty issue that it took Dave McAlpin and
myself several hours to wrestle to the ground last week). It is referenced
by the Resolution proposal page at
http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ReSolution/I10XridRefactor.

In addition, the following Resolution proposal pages are also recommended
for immediate review:

http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ReSolution/I9NamespaceRefactor for
the proposed refactoring of the $res namespace to accommodate the above
proposals.

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ReSolution/I10XridRefactor
for examples of XRIDs that reflect the above proposals.

You are likely to see an explosion in activity on this list as discussion of
these proposals proceeds. TC members are encouraged to post comments,
discussions, or counterproposals directly on the relevant proposal pages AND
reference them from a short note to this list (since OASIS does not yet
offer the feature of subscribing to wiki pages - we're contacting them about
this.)

Non-XRI TC members are encouraged to submit feedback via the relevant list
to which they are subscribed; XRI TC members on that list will see that it
is posted.

Thanks for your help - we look forward to finalizing the Committee Draft 02
specification suite by Oct. 15 so we can take it to a full OASIS vote in
December.
