Subject: Minutes: XRI TC Telecon Thursday 2006-10-26

Following are the minutes for the XRI TC telecon at:

Date:  Thursday, 26 October 2006 USA (Friday morning Asia)
Time:  4:00PM - 5:30PM PT

Event Description:
Weekly unofficial call that will continue until the end of the XRI 2.0
cycle.

PRESENT

Gabe Wachob
Drummond Reed
Steve Churchill
Wil Tan
Marty Schleiff

1) IPR MODE TRANSITION

OASIS staff has reminded us that we need to officially move to an official
OASIS IPR mode before the end of the year. Since we are bound by our TC
charter to choose RF/Limited mode, and since all TC members have now
converted to the updated membership agreement, we can hold this vote at any
time. It requires the TC to first vote to request that the TC administrator
hold and official ballot.

# Drummond to post an online ballot to request the vote (this should happen
Tuesday Oct. 31).

# ALL TC MEMBERS SHOULD VOTE AS SOON AS IT IS POSTED TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE
QUORUM ON THE VOTE.

2) XRI RESOLUTION 2.0 WORKING DRAFT 11 STATUS REPORT

All issues (except one that is dependent on XRI Syntax 2.1) are now closed
-- see the XRI TC wiki at:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ResWorkingDraft11

Drummond has begun work on the actual drafting, but it will take at least
two week before a full draft is ready.

3) XRI SYNTAX 2.1 OPEN ISSUES LIST

A new XRI TC wiki page has been posted at:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriCd02/XriSyntax2dot1

It lists the 9 current open issues for XRI Syntax 2.1. The first three of
these involve new XRI forms (canonical, HXRI, MXRI) that are written up
separately in a proposal page at:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriCd02/Xri2dot1Formats

We spent the majority of the call reviewing these issues/proposals to
familiarize everyone on the call. The following key points were made:

* On #1, canonicalization, we agreed that the XRI $ Dictionary could define
its own canonicalization rules for other URI schemes (that don't define
their own canonicalization rules) when such URIs are used as XRI
cross-references. However we also agreed that any such rules MUST only
produce URIs that are equivalent to the original URI by the URI scheme's own
equivalence rules.

* On #4, trailing slash significance, we agreed we need to include this in
canonicalization.

* Gabe asked the question about whether we couldn't reduce the number of
normal forms by specifying that XRI normal form is canonical form.

* We had a long discussion about the proposed MXRI (Mailto XRI) formatting
rules and the potential role of MXRI proxy servers being similar to that of
HXRI proxy servers.

4) XRI $ DICTIONARY 2.0 STATUS REPORT

Marty continues to develop a machine-readable XML format for the XRI $
Dictionary. He and Drummond plan to invite others to participate in the
process of refactoring the former XRI Metadata 2.0 specification into the
new XRI $ Dictionary 2.0 specification. A new XRI TC wiki page has been
posted with an initial outline at:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriCd02/DictionaryDraft01

Feedback is actively solicited.

5) XRI 2.0 SUITE TIMELINE

Gabe and Drummond proposed that we aim to approve Committee Drafts and
submit the three XRI 2.x specifications (Syntax 2.1, Resolution 2.0, and $
Dictionary 2.0) for public review by Dec. 15th. This will allow the 60-day
public review period to run over the holidays. There was general consensus
that we should strongly aim for this target.

6) NEXT CALL

We will NOT hold the weekly telecon this coming week (Nov. 2) due to travel
by several TC members. The next telecon will be the following Thursday, Nov.
9th.
