Subject: Minutes: XRI TC Telecon Thursday 2006-12-07
Following are the minutes for the unofficial XRI TC telecon at: Date: Thursday, 07 December 2006 USA (Friday morning Asia) Time: 4:00PM - 5:30PM PT Event Description: Weekly unofficial call that will continue until the end of the XRI 2.0 cycle. ATTENDING Bill Barnhill Gabe Wachob Marty Schleiff Laurie Rae Drummond Reed Steve Churchill Les Chasen AGENDA 1) INTERNET IDENTITY WORKSHOP REPORT Gabe, Drummond, Steve, Marty, and Laurie attended IIW in Mountain View (http://www.windley.com/events/iiw2006b/announcement). XRI was intertwined with many discussions, particularly OpenID Authentication 2.0, which fully integrates XRI identifiers and XRDS resolution for OpenID service endpoint discovery. They noted the following key points: * There is a very strong need for more documentation about XRIs, how they can be used, what their advantages are, etc. * There is an equally strong need for more code and examples, so developers can more easily integrate XRI support. In particular this focused on OpenXRI. * There is a strong need for XRI registries and registrars to expose XRDS service endpoint (SEP) editing, add/edit Ref elements, and add other types of metadata. 2) EDITING OF XRDS DOCUMENTS, SEPS, AND REFS We discussed the behaviour of a Ref element when the value was an http(s) URI and not an XRI, and in particular how this would affect CanonicalID validation and trusted resolution. We also discussed whether an XRI registry could interpret this as the need to issue an http(s) redirect. This has been posted as issue #39 at: http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ResWorkingDraft11#head-cd171099efae0 96c7241d14b6054eaab3c8aea2f 3) RELATIONSHIP OF TRUSTED RESOLUTION TO CERTIFICATES Steve brought up the topic of how XRDs essentially operate as certificates obtained via HTTPS or SAML signatures. The consensus was that while this is true, it means that XRI authorities are essentially serving in the same role as certificate authorities (CAs), so it means they will need similar business practices. 4) XRI $ DICTIONARY REPORT The XRI $ Dictionary editors (Marty, Laurie, and Drummond) reported on their progress with the $ Dictionary and the results of their f2f review meeting with Gabe that day. There was good enthusiasm about the results of the meeting, which Laurie has captured. There should be a version of the $ Dictionary schema and XML document posted before Xmas, and the issues page will start becoming active. There was also discussion of where the $ registry will be hosted once it becomes a fully operational service. Both OASIS and XDI.org were discussed. # BILL, as a member of the OASIS TAB, will send info to the TC list about OASIS hosting a $ registry. 4) XRI SYNTAX ISSUES We to discuss issues at the wiki page... http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriCd02/Xri2dot1Formats ...but agreed to continue that on the next call. 5) XRI RESOLUTION 2.0 REPORT Drummond reported that he has not made much more progress and was not likely to in the next week, but that the holidays may finally afford him the time to finish the draft. The goal for next week is to propose solutions to the new open issues. See: http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ResWorkingDraft11 =Drummond
