Subject: Key closure points for SPECIAL XRI TELECON 2-3PM PT Tuesday 2009-01-13

A reminder that we're having a special telecon this afternoon on closure on
the XRI 3.0 syntax proposals -- see the original email below for logistics.

The key points for discussion on the telecon:

1) The GCSDelimiter proposal...

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriThree/GcsDelimiter

...is required by the XDI addressing rule based on the XDI metagraph
predicate $has as documented in section 5.3 of...

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xdi/XdiOne/RdfGraphModel

2) The XrefDelimiter proposal...

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriThree/XrefDelimiter

...is required by the XDI reification addressing rule documented in section
4.2 of the same page linked above.

3) Further advantages of both these proposals as reflected in the proposed
XRI 3.0 ABNF:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriThree/SyntaxAbnf

	* They produce a shorter, cleaner, clearer ABNF with fewer
exceptions and irregularities that the XRI 2.0 ABNF (also shown on the page
above).
	* In this ABNF, all XRI delimiters are now "atomic", i.e., they each
can be used independently to delimit an XRI subsegment anyplace within an
XRI segment, rather than the set of irregular limitations and exceptions in
XRI 2.0 ABNF.

The disadvantages:
	* There is some cost in backwards compatability, which should be
minimized due to the transition to new XRI resolution service endpoints with
new URIs.
	* There are differing opinions on human-readability of the proposed
3.0 syntax.

Talk to you shortly,

=Drummond

******** ORIGINAL EMAIL NOTICE OF THE SPECIAL TELECON ********

The XRI TC will hold a special unofficial telecon on XRI 3.0 Syntax at:

Date: Tuesday, 13 January 2009 USA
Time: 2:00PM - 3:00PM Pacific Time (22:00-23:00 UTC)

TO ACCESS THE AUDIO CONFERENCE:
	Dial-in number: 1 (906) 481-2100
	Access Code: 716822#

AGENDA

The purpose of the telecon is to review the two key proposals for XRI 3.0
Syntax...

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriThree/GcsDelimiter
	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/XriThree/XrefDelimiter

...in light of the requirements of the XDI RDF graph model and XDI
addressing as explained in the XDI TC's preliminary draft of the XDI RDF
Graph Model:

	http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xdi/XdiOne/RdfGraphModel

The goal is to come to closure on these proposals so we can proceed with the
Working Draft 01 of XRI Syntax 3.0 (and the XDI TC can proceed to the first
Working Draft 01 of XDI RDF Graph Model 1.0).

Please review these pages and if possible post any remaining questions or
issues to the XRI TC list (and if necessary copy the XDI TC list) prior to
the telecon.
