Subject: IMPORTANT: ACXO BUSINESS

Dear ACXO members,

We have 2 important "phase gates" through which to pass to launch XML.ORG:

- One is the completion of the Registry and Repository by the Sun/Documentum
team and the associated transferal of the Registry and Repository to OASIS.

- The other is the completion of the industry-oriented browsing interface
for the portal and the finalization of the PR/launch activity list.

During our last conference call, we determined that we would make our GO/NO
GO decision on Tuesday 23 May.

It is perhaps obvious that the browsing interface (the portal) will not be
complete by then. Because of that, I am proposing that we focus on the first
phase gate (the completion of the regrep and the transferal to OASIS) next
week, and then make the *launch* GO/NO GO decision on the following
Thursday, 1 June. (When we speak next, Carol and I will offer further
insights on the messaging of the launch.)

Below are proposed criteria for making both decisions:

GO/NO GO #1: PRODUCT COMPLETION AND TRANSFERAL
TUESDAY 23 May 2000

Product (regrep)
- That the regrep operates as per the Functional Specification
- That the QA team offers assurance that the regrep is free of critical
("show-stopping") bugs
- That the regrep is deemed usable and useful by the ACXO (after the one-day
evaluation period, described in a subsequent message)
- That OASIS has in place the necessary human and technical resource to
properly administrate the regrep. Specifically:
  - That a Submissions Reviewer is identified
  - That a hosting service has been selected

Legal
- That all licenses are secured (Sun hardware, Documentum, Oracle, iPlanet,
etc.)

Documentation
- That the regrep system be fully documented, WRT all hardware, software,
and any custom programs, that have been employed

GO/NO GO #2: LAUNCH
THURSDAY 1 JUNE 2000

Product (Portal)
- That the portal UI (or browsing interface) reflect our new industry
orientation (most importantly, that the XML.ORG home page have a new look;
without that, the launch falls flat)
- That we have a classification scheme for both the UI as well as for schema
(not necessarily identical)

Marketing
- That the following XML.ORG information be complete and distributed to the
ACXO, Board and OASIS staff prior to announce date:
  - XML.ORG/regrep data sheet
  - XML.ORG press and analyst briefing package
  - XML.ORG/regrep presentation
  - XML.ORG premiums (gifts for press/analysts, etc.)
  - etc. (as per the launch plan)
- That banner ads be placed on affiliate sites (such as XML.com, XMLtimes,
OAG, etc.)
- That appointments are scheduled with press and analysts at Java One (SD),
XML Europe (Paris) and XML DevCon (NYC).

Infrastructure
- That the regrep, in its entirety, has been moved to the hosting service

Legal
- That the IP disclaimers and other legal language be complete and
incorporated into the site.

Training
- That the Regrep Development Team adequately train the OASIS staffers who
will become responsible for processing submissions and system
management/maintenance.
