Subject: Re: [amqp] Groups - CBP Use Cases for AMQP TC uploaded

Hi Wolf, (Ram, etc)

Some comments:

The requirements ask for a broker ( which is "additional" to AMQP 1.0 - for Ram's benefit ;-). Mention of a fanout exchange is very AMQP 0-10. Which is not a bad thing - just saying.

I still see the need for brokers at certain endpoints in an AMQP topology (for certain SLAs) but I also suggest that some of the HA, load balancing, and potentially back-up might be achieved using assets other than brokers in the traditional MOM sense. Redundant lightweight (and potentially cheaper) assets like basic AMQP message routers in the topology could achieve much of this.

Throughput and latency requirements explain what these terms mean (definitions) and how to calculate but not what the specific requirement is for CBP.   Of course, having said that the spec. wouldn't define specific latency and throughput targets (obviously).

Overall this looks like a AMQP 0-10 broker requirement doc. Yea AMQP 0-10!  Perhaps the suggestion is to include a broker specification like 0-10 for people that want to use brokers.  If so, I'd suggest that we define a broker to be something that does more than simply route messages but has some other value - persistence, exchanges etc.. That way we don't force the broker specification on all intermediaries/routers.

Thanks for this Wolfe. It is very useful.

Best,
William

Mr. Wolfe,

Thanks for this contribution!

We need to evaluate how these requirements and use cases impact the upcoming OASIS Work Products.

Do you envisage particular feature additions or improvements to AMQP 1.0 or related Work Products (extensions/mappings/bindings) arising from these requirements?
