Chrystal Software Announces Content Management on Sun[TM] Solaris [TM]
Operating Environment Clients

Cross-platform support with a Java[TM]-based end-to-end publishing =
solution

San Diego, CA - December 13, 1999 - Chrystal Software, a Xerox New
Enterprise Company, today announced content management for clients of
Sun[TM] Microsystem's Solaris[TM] Operating Environment clients. =
Chrystal
Software customers will be able to employ eXtensible Markup Language =
(XML)
and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) solutions in Solaris
operating system-only or mixed computing environments. Capabilities =
include
content management, Web-based access for authoring, view and =
annotation, and
connection to popular authoring tools.

"By providing content management solutions for clients of the Solaris
Operating Environment, Chrystal Software will be far more open to new
customers and new markets," said Brad Chang, Vice President of Strategy =
for
Chrystal Software. "To maintain our leadership position in the content
management market, it was critical for us to support Solaris Operating
Environment customers as it is one of the leading operating systems in =
the
world."=20

Content management is an ideal solution for organizations producing and
publishing all types of structured documents created using popular =
authoring
tools. By managing documents down to the component level, users can
retrieve, access, version, and secure each component individually, =
while
maintaining the link between each component within the document, or
documents, of which they are a part. A graphic, a procedure, or a =
paragraph
are examples of components that can be dynamically assembled within the
content management framework to create personal, interactive content.

Pivotal to the Solaris Operating Environment integration was Chrystal
Software's introduction of Web-based editing using Java[TM] technology =
for
all documents and XML/SGML components. This enables authors to access =
their
documents, make changes, and check in documents from distant locations,
while working from home or during travel. This add-on functionality =
uses a
standard browser interface running on Solaris desktops. In addition to
XML/SGML, file check-out/check-in works with graphics, word processing
files, and any other file format client software.=20

The Solaris Operating Environment provides seamless support for 32- and
64-bit applications, superior Java technology performance, and high
reliability and is available for systems based on both Intel and =
SPARC[TM]
microprocessors.

"We are very pleased to see this type of web application being hosted =
on the
Solaris Operating Environment. The use of XML and Java are great =
examples of
implementing open standards," said Bill Smith, Sun's XML Technology =
Center
Manager.

A content management solution for organizations producing and =
publishing all
types of structured documents, Astoria manages content created using =
systems
like Arbortext's Epic and ADEPT*Editor=AE and Adobe's FrameMaker+SGML. =
It
manages documents down to the component level, including retrieving,
accessing, versioning, and securing each component individually.

Chrystal Software's Web Services provides online access to corporate
information for all members of an organization in a secure and =
configurable
environment. An add-on product to the Astoria content management =
system, Web
Services works in Intranet, Extranet, and Internet environments and =
allows
users to search and navigate through the content of documents or =
document
components and display the content in a standard Web browser interface.

Chrystal Software's Advisor is a review and annotation tool that is =
layered
onto Chrystal's Web Services technology. Advisor not only eliminates =
the
paper review process, but it also greatly enhances the quality and =
focus of
the review process. This solution enables collaborative review and
component-based commentary, improving the overall quality of documents =
for
publication.

Astoria systems running in the Solaris Operating Environment will be
available in early 2000. The initial release of Eclipse, an innovative
solution incorporating traditional Web pages and new, interactive =
content,
will support Solaris Operating Environment clients. Eclipse integrates =
with
leading authoring software, Internet browsers, Web servers, and Web =
design
software, and supports XML standards.

Currently, Astoria supports Windows NT and Windows 95/98 platforms.
