Subject: DataChannel Server 4.0 Released to Manufacturing / Upcoming Webcast Announced

DataChannel Server 4.0 Released to Manufacturing; Feb. 8 WebCast to Announce
General Availability of Next Generation XML-Based EIP Server

Bellevue, WA - January 31, 2000 -- DataChannel announced today that is has
released DataChannel Server 4.0, its flagship XML-based Enterprise
Information Portal Server, to manufacturing for commercial availability on
Feb. 8, 2000.

A Webcast to be held at 10 a.m. PST on Feb. 8, will highlight the features
and benefits of this next generation XML-based Portal Server from
DataChannel.

Enterprise Information Portal Solutions from DataChannel provide customers
with a personalized, e-business interface to mission-critical information.
In today's information economy, there are no boundaries on the enterprise or
the information it must manage. DataChannel Server 4.0 (DCS 4.0) creates a
"virtual enterprise" by unleashing information found at the heart of a
company and combining it with data and applications from partners,
e-marketplaces, and the Internet. This information can be dynamically
categorized into "Channels" which are then published in a personalized view
to the right user, inside or outside of the enterprise.

"DataChannel employs some of the brightest minds in the world. Our team's
expertise in XML and enterprise computing has produced a revolutionary
design that will become the standard platform for e-business portals," said
Paul O'Mara, DataChannel vice president of engineering. "With its new
Intelligent eXtensible Architecture(TM) (IXA(TM)), DCS 4.0 is a more
flexible, extensible, and dynamic environment than ever before. It delivers
a device independent, highly customized user experience."

DataChannel, a member of OASIS, the W3C, and other standards bodies,
continues its industry leadership through its commitment to open-standards
computing. Registered participants of the DCS 4.0 Webcast will learn how the
new architecture is entirely founded on XML and its supporting technologies.
This will include a review of XPages(TM), a transformation environment,
which has already been submitted as open-source to Apache.org. Additionally,
DCS 4.0 is built on DataChannel's Portal Markup Language (PML 1.0), which
was submitted to OASIS and its XML.org. This allows partners, suppliers, and
other business-to-business applications to share their own "channels" of
information by using this standard portal layout described in XML.

Limited space for the Webcast is reserved for press, analysts, customers and
partners. Afterward, the Webcast, presentation, and demo can be seen on
DataChannel's web site at http://www.datachannel.com
