Sequoia Software Integrates Semio's Taxonomy Solution with Sequoia's XML
Portal Server

Partnership Extends Sequoia's Interactive Portal Application, Gives
Customers Industry Leading Search and Retrieval Solution Optimized for
Text-Based Content

COLUMBIA, Md.--February 14, 2000--Sequoia Software Corporation, a leading
provider and innovator of interactive enterprise portals, today announced a
partnership with Semio Corporation to integrate Semio's Taxonomy Solution,
a multi-level directory structure that includes thesaurus-like links, into
Sequoia's XML Portal Server (XPS). By integrating the Semio Taxonomy
Solution with XPS, Sequoia customers will have the ability to conduct more
precise searches against all text-based portal content, increasing
workplace efficiency. Sequoia Software is the first portal software
developer to partner with Semio to provide enhanced text-based searching
within an enterprise portal application.

Semio's solution makes it easier for portal users to browse and discover
information quickly. Users get more than just a list of documents--they get
an understanding of where a specific concept fits into their portal's
overall collection of information, and what conceptually related content is
available. By addressing the requirement of categorizing text-based
content, Semio's technology complements Sequoia's XML indexing
technologywhich enables context-sensitive searching of XML content.

"Sequoia effectively addresses its customer's need to aggregate, index and
search XML-based content," said Roger Ferguson, chief executive officer,
Semio Corporation. "By integrating the Semio Taxonomy Solution, Sequoia is
extending the value and impact of XPS, giving its customers the tools they
need to accurately and efficiently categorize and search all their content."

"Because our overriding goal is to improve the way our customers access,
assimilate and act on this content, we must provide tools that are
optimized for categorizing and searching structured and text-based
information," said Mark Wesker, president, Sequoia Software. "Our
partnership with Semio allows Sequoia to offer customers the information
management tools they require to fully exploit their information resources,
regardless of format."
