Washington Region High Tech Awards Banquet

FAIRFAX, Va.--May 3, 2000- webMethods, Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBM), the

solutions, today announced Phillip Merrick, the company's
Foundert Founder and CEO, has received the KPMG LLP Greater
Washington Region High Tech Entrepreneur Award. KPMG presented
the award Tuesday evening May 2 as part of the 13th Annual
Greater Washington Region High Tech Awards Banquet. Each year,
KPMG honors individuals who have made significant contributions
to the advancement of technology in the region.

Phillip Merrick is a 15-year software industry veteran and the
original architect of webMethods B2B. Since the company's
foundingfounding the company in 1996, Mr. Merrick has provided

business-to-business over the Internet. Mr. Merrick has
