Subject: Release - Software AG Announces Bolero 3.1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOFTWARE AG, INC. TO DELIVER BOLERO 3.1 TO U.S. MARKET
XML-Compatible Java Development Platform
Designed to Optimize, Advance Electronic Business Applications

JAVA ONE 2000, SAN FRANCISCO - June 5, 2000 - Software AG, Inc. USA
has announced Bolero 3.1, a newly-enhanced Java development environment
specifically designed for building industrial-strength, electronic business
applications. An object-oriented development and runtime environment for
component-based applications running on Java, Bolero 3.1 is fully compatible
with the new language of e-business, XML.

The announcement of Bolero 3.1 follows the U.S. launch of Tamino, the
world's first native XML server and Software AG's hallmark XML offering.
Tamino and Bolero are integral components of the company's full suite
of native XML products designed for electronic business.

"With Bolero, developers can finally build high-performance, XML-enabled
electronic business applications with ease," Dr. Helmut Wilke, Software
AG, Inc., said. "Bolero 3.1 brings the power of XML to the universal Java
platform, allowing programmers and application architects alike to achieve
unparalleled development productivity and performance for environments
using complex XML data."
Bolero 3.1 offers a number of competitive advantages, including:

-Transparent XML Support: Bolero 3.1 includes a new DTD class generator
with built-in parsing support based on SAX and DOM, allowing instant
processing
of XML documents with no need for additional programming or extensive XML
expertise.
-Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) and Java Transaction Service (JTS) Support:
Developers can now use Bolero within the infrastructure of the Java 2
Enterprise
Edition, allowing for increased scalability and manageability of application
components. Bolero 3.1 also allows for multi-database support with its
advanced object-relational mapping technology, including distributed
transaction
handling based on JTS.
	 - Direct Access to SAP's R/3 Systems: A newly-developed CLIP for SAP
solutions allows developers to call R/3 functions directly from Bolero
applications, and to transfer data from or to R/3. With such tight SAP
function integration, Bolero does not require programmers to concern
themselves
with SAP details like data types, help values and language-specific field
descriptions.
-HoTMetaL PRO 6.0 Integration: Bolero 3.1 features Softquad Software's
HoTMetaL PRO 6.0, one of the most powerful and versatile Web site creation
and management tools on the market. Using Bolero 3.1 and HoTMetaL PRO
6.0, developers can quickly create Web pages and sites far more
sophisticated
than those created with standard Web applications.
-Extended Team Development Capabilities: Bolero 3.1 includes a new central
repository engine that gives joint developers universal access to the
group's
collective development results, while still in progress. Group members
can access public or private workspaces utilizing check-in/check-out
procedures.

"Bolero is the 'power tool' for developing transaction-oriented electronic
business applications for the Java platform," Harald Nehring, director
of product marketing, Software AG, Darmstadt, Germany, said. "With its
strong support of XML, among other critical new features, Version 3.1
is the 'must have' Java tool."
Bolero is made up of two function groups:

-Bolero Component Studio, or development environment, which enables the
specification and production of component-based applications, and
-Bolero Application Server, or runtime environment, which supports
persistent
database access, long transactions for coordinating complex business
processes
and communication with distributed applications.

The Bolero Component Studio runs on Windows NT, with a version for
Linux coming later this year. The Bolero Application Server is available
for Microsoft Windows NT, Sun Solaris, IBM OS/390, AIX, Compaq TRU64 Unix,
HP-UX, and Linux.
Bolero 3.1 will ship worldwide in July 2000. The Bolero Personal Edition
(PE) is available now free of charge for non-commercial use.
