FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SoftQuad Joins Ariba Supplier Initiative; Company will Integrate Products
and Collaborate on cXML Development
SoftQuad products enable Ariba suppliers to easily create and manage their
e-market content

TORONTO, ON – August 10, 2000—SoftQuad Software, Ltd. (OTC BB: SXML), an
internationally recognized developer of XML-enabling technologies and
commerce solutions for e-business, today announced that it has joined the
Ariba Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBA) supplier enablement initiative and will integrate
its products into the Ariba® B2B Commerce Platform™ using the Ariba Commerce
Services Network®* (Ariba CSN).

SoftQuad’s XML-based content solutions, XMetaL® and MarketAgility™, combined
with the Ariba CSN, provide suppliers with a single, Internet-based point of
access and integration with buyers and marketplaces worldwide. Ariba CSN
also provides SoftQuad’s customers with efficient trading mechanisms and
commerce processes such as systems integration services, global supplier
directories, sourcing tools, B2B auctions and reverse auctions, logistics
and supplier enablement, electronic payment and streamlined transaction
services.

“Enabling suppliers to participate easily is a critical factor for the
success of B2B marketplaces,” said Roberto Drassinower, president and CEO,
SoftQuad Software, Ltd. “We’re excited to be working with Ariba and to
provide our award winning XML-based solutions to the Ariba supplier network,
giving suppliers the power to easily manage their e-market content.”

“We are pleased that SoftQuad is integrating its line of XML content
solutions with the rapidly growing, global Ariba Commerce Services Network,”
said Cindy Elkins, senior director, Supplier and Content Solutions at Ariba.
“By making XMetaL and MarketAgility compatible with the Ariba B2B Commerce
Platform, SoftQuad provides suppliers with the opportunity to quickly and
efficiently create and manage content, and to take advantage of the global
economies of scale that B2B e-commerce presents.”

Further, SoftQuad will collaborate with Ariba on the continued development
of Commerce XML (cXML), an open Internet standard for exchanging supplier
content and transaction information between buyers, suppliers and B2B
marketplaces. SoftQuad will use cXML to integrate its B2B solutions with the
Ariba B2B Commerce Platform.

SoftQuad’s XML content solutions give suppliers the power and control they
need to participate and effectively compete in e-markets by making their
content and unique value proposition directly accessible to customers
through the Ariba CSN.
