Arbortext Announces American Century Chooses Arbortext E-Content Software to
Offer Customers New, Innovative Investment Service Products

Arbortext XML-based e-content software provides solution to create, manage
and personalize 150,000 information pieces produced annually

ANN ARBOR, Mich., August 22, 2000 -- Arbortext, Inc., a leading provider of
Extensible Markup Language (XML) –based e-content software for e-publishing,
e-commerce, and B2B
e-marketplaces, today announced that American Century Investments, a leading
investment management company serving nearly two million individual and
institutional investors, has chosen Arbortext’s Epic e-content software as
the basis to create and produce a variety of new, innovative investment
product offerings.

Both individual and institutional investors benefit from this new system.
Using Epic, Arbortext’s XML-based e-content software, organizations like
American Century are able to automate the delivery of more types of
personalized information to their customers in a variety of formats over
different types of media – including the Internet, CD-ROM, cell phones,
PDAs, eBooks and print.

Epic features the ability to deliver business-critical content by
streamlining the conversion and capture of content into XML and automating
the assembly, personalization and transformation of XML to multiple media
from the same content source, enabling organizations to be more responsive
to customer requirements.

By reducing the time spent re-creating content, companies like American
Century can spend more time reviewing content to determine how to add value
to their products – or even produce new products – for their customers.
These products could include new shareholder educating pieces, new seminar
offerings and new ways to view and receive fund information.

"To meet the demands of the marketplace, content-rich industries such as
financial services need application architectures that are content-focused,"
said John Parker, Aberdeen Group Senior Analyst on Multimedia and Content
Infrastructure. "Epic provides a standards-based methodology for rapidly
developing applications that create, manage and deliver content from a
variety of sources through a variety of media and devices."

“To remain competitive, companies want to increase both the quantity of
information they share with their customers as well as the usability of that
information,” said PG Bartlett, vice president, marketing at Arbortext.
“Our Epic e-content software helps companies leverage the power of XML to
capture their information in a form that they can easily reuse in multiple
instances and automatically repurpose for multiple media.”

Macintosh Support using Arbortext’s Extend Server Model

Through Arbortext’s Extend product, a set of software and services that
support Application Service Provider (ASP) deployment of Arbortext’s
XML-based e-content software, American Century is able to offer numerous
authors working on Macintosh computers the opportunity to use Epic,
traditionally a Windows and UNIX-based product.

Extend enables companies to utilize Arbortext software who might otherwise
be unable to do so because of out-dated equipment, lack of technical
support, or cost of maintaining applications on hundreds or thousands of
desktops. Arbortext’s software can either be hosted on its customers’
servers or on a third-party Web hosting services, and is accessible using a
standard browser or a thin client. The software runs on a variety of
desktops, including Windows, Macintosh, DOS, UNIX, Java and OS/2 Warp.
