Software AG, Sequoia Software In XML-Powered Partnership

U.S. E-Business Innovator, Database Software Giant Strike Reseller
Agreement,
Integrate Tamino* XML Database Into Pure-XML XPS* Portal Server

SAN RAMON, Calif. and COLUMBIA, Md. - October 30, 2000 - Sequoia Software
Corporation (Nasdaq: SQSW), the leading provider and innovator of XML Pure
e-business software, and Software AG, one of the world's largest systems
software providers and a pioneer in XML technology, today announced a
strategic partnership. The companies will integrate Software AG's Tamino
native-XML database with Sequoia's XPS(tm) portal server, allowing
businesses to move content between a portal, a database and the Web
seamlessly and without the need for data conversion.

To support the strategic partnership, Software AG will add XPS to the range
of products it markets worldwide through its 1,500-member sales force and
its extensive world-wide network of value-added resellers; Sequoia will
offer Tamino licenses through its own sales force and through systems
integrators, resellers and consultancies in North America and elsewhere.

"Our partnership with Sequoia Software is a natural alliance between two
companies committed to realizing the promise of XML for global business,"
said Alf Goebel, president, Software AG, Inc. "Together we can offer our
customers a comprehensive, pure-XML solution to address the critical
performance and scalability requirements of the evolving e-business
marketplace."

Sequoia's XPS is an XML-pure portal server - the only such product designed
to be flexible and reliable enough to manage critical processes for
companies struggling with the adapt-to-thrive demands of the new economy.
XPS lets businesses of all sizes streamline and automate even complicated
business operations, providing a single window through which anyone in the
enterprise can interact with partners, vendors, customers and fellow
employees in real time, achieving results in seconds instead of days.

Software AG's Tamino is a native-XML database created to store, retrieve and
directly manage nearly any information or Internet object - XML documents,
audio, video, still pictures, HTML pages and much more. The structure and
content of individual documents remain intact in the database, improving
performance considerably, particularly when when dealing with complex,
hierarchically structured documents. Tamino has been optimized to run on a
range of platforms and is ideally suited for companies requiring an
XML-compatible repository for storing and managing mission-critical content.

"Both products are designed to be highly scalable and to support legacy
systems and applications - qualities inherent in the pure-XML architecture
of Tamino and XPS, and essential for creating portals that can grow and
change with a shifting business landscape," said Mark Wesker, president and
COO of Sequoia Software. "Together, Tamino and XPS make an excellent
solution for any company that needs to integrate and Web-enable various
applications and information sources to create a smoothly functioning
e-business system."

"Software AG's choice of the XPS portal represents a substantial validation
of Sequoia's XML Pure philosophy," Wesker said. "Together, Sequoia and
Software AG can offer customers in North America and throughout Europe the
competitive advantage that comes with a strong, future-proof technology
platform that can support everything from enterprise portals to online
exchanges."
