SOFTQUAD AND DOCUMENTUM ANNOUNCE INTEGRATED XML CONTENT MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
FOR E-BUSINESS
Integration of SoftQuad XMetaL and Documentum 4i eBusiness Platform provides
comprehensive XML content management for Global 2000 companies

TORONTO, ON and PLEASANTON, CA - December 12, 2000 - SoftQuad Software, Ltd.
(OTC BB: SXML), the co-creator of XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and an
internationally recognized developer of XML-enabling technologies and
commerce solutions for e-business, and Documentum, Inc. (Nasdaq: DCTM), the
leading provider of Internet-scale content management solutions for powering
e-business applications, today announced a technology integration, which
brings the advantages of XML content management to Global 2000 companies
with e-business initiatives. The integration of SoftQuad XMetaL to
Documentum 4i eBusiness Platform enables business users to easily create,
manage, and share customized content across global e-business applications
and the Web. SoftQuad's integration module is targeted for availability by
the end of this month, coinciding with Documentum's targeted release of its
newly announced (December 5, 2000) version of the 4i eBusiness Platform.

"Our joint development effort with SoftQuad is another example of
Documentum's commitment to provide integrations to our 4i Platform with the
top technology solutions that enable e-business success," said Whitney
Tidmarsh, vice president of product marketing for Documentum. "SoftQuad's
tremendous XML expertise coupled with Documentum's extensive experience in
enterprise content management provides our joint customers with the powerful
capability to capture and leverage the valuable knowledge that exists within
their organizations. This information can be made available in any format
wherever and whenever it's needed via any device. This is a tremendous
business advantage in today's competitive New Economy."

Together, Documentum and SoftQuad provide Global 2000 companies with
comprehensive XML content management to support the growing content demands
of e-business. The new product integration allows users to create, edit and
save XML documents into Documentum's content repository directly from within
XMetaL, while managing content lifecycle with the Documentum 4i eBusiness
Platform. The solution enables enterprises to manage and deliver customized
XML content to different audiences and delivery channels, such as e-commerce
sites, portals, handheld and wireless devices, and electronic marketplaces.
Management of XML-based content enables cross-enterprise collaboration and
the global exchange of dynamic content, facilitating e-business success in
the Internet economy.

"More than half of the Global 2000 are Documentum customers, which is
testimony to the company's deep understanding of the unique needs of large,
multinational organizations," said Roberto Drassinower, CEO of SoftQuad.
"This integration provides an unprecedented content creation and management
solution that enhances SoftQuad's ability to serve existing customers who
rely on Documentum, and facilitates the development of new relationships and
opportunities."

SoftQuad XMetaL 2.0 is the premier XML content creation solution. It allows
an organization's entire user base to easily create content directly in XML,
eliminating the delay and cost associated with converting content from other
formats. XMetaL can be seamlessly integrated into e-business applications
and is easy to customize, enabling developers to quickly create authoring
environments suitable for all content contributors.

XMetaL 2.0 has won numerous awards, including "Best Development Tool" at the
November 2000 PC Magazine (UK) Technical Innovation Awards presentation. An
October Internet Week product review summarized XMetaL as, "A supportive
environment for creating XML and a fabulous way to make safe and easy front
ends for content contributors. A must-have."

This press release contains "forward-looking statements" within the meaning
of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Words such as
"anticipates", "estimates", "expects", "will", "should", "projects",
"intends", "plans", "believes" and words and terms of similar substance used

SoftQuad is an early-stage growth company that operates in a highly
competitive and rapidly changing environment, and its business results are
dependent on numerous factors, including demand for its products and
services, especially its newly introduced MarketAgility product, growth in
the market for XML products, its ability to manage costs, generate revenues
and become profitable, the potential impact of any mergers, acquisitions or
other business combinations, the transition from its past reliance on
revenues from its HoTMetaL (HTML-based) product to its XML-based products,
its ability to meet its future capital requirements, technological
developments, competition from other companies that may have longer
operating histories or greater financial resources, protection of its
intellectual property rights, its ability to attract and retain key
personnel, the resolution of issues concerning commercial activities via the
Internet, including security, reliability, cost, ease of use and access,
government regulation, risks related to international sales and potential
foreign currency exchange fluctuations, political, business and social
conditions in the geographic areas in which it operates and in which its
products are sold, its ability to successfully obtain inclusion of its
common stock on the NASDAQ National Market and other risks detailed from
time to time in periodic reports filed by SoftQuad with the U.S. Securities
and Exchange Commission and other regulatory authorities. SoftQuad's actual
results could differ materially from management's expectations because of
such factors.
