Subject: Siemens Building Technologies Selects Arbortext's Epic Software
Siemens Building Technologies Selects Arbortext’s Epic Software for XML-based Authoring and Publishing to CD-ROM Ann Arbor, Mich, July 9, 2001 – Arbortext, Inc., the only global provider of XML-based software that enables the creation, editing and publishing of information from a single-source of content to multiple media types, today announced that Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., selected Arbortext’s Epic software to create and publish over 500,000 pages of building operation manuals to CD-ROM. With over 80 branch offices in North America and numerous large customers to service, Siemens requires the ability to quickly create, customize, revise and publish its operation manuals. Through a combination of Arbortext’s XML-based Epic Editor and CD-ROM publishing module, Siemens technical documentation authors will be able to create reusable XML-based content components that can be stored in a single source, then retrieved and published in accordance with individual needs in the time frame required. Traditional book publishing can be costly and time consuming. Using the Arbortext CD-ROM publishing capability, Siemens will be able to reduce its publishing costs as well as deliver new product information to its customers with greater speed, accuracy and cost-efficiency than before. Publishing the building operation manuals to CD-ROM now takes hours for Siemens versus the many weeks it previously took using its old system. Because of advantages provided in the Arbortext Epic Editor publishing environment, Siemens’ customers will also be able to receive customized operating manuals to support the operation and maintenance of their individual security, fire safety, energy efficiency and building operation systems. No longer will Siemens’ customers need to sift through documentation that is not relevant to their particular workplace. “Providing customized building operation manuals is an important piece in offering our customers the best possible service,” said Patrick Mehl, senior technical communicator at Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. “We chose Arbortext because it provides the richest XML-based single source authoring and publishing solution that can be easily integrated within our existing environment to achieve that goal. Working with Arbortext gives us the security of getting the best technology and the best expertise.” ”We are pleased that Siemens Building Technologies has decided to work with us,” said PG Bartlett, vice president of marketing for Arbortext. “As a global leader in providing products, services and solutions for building operation and maintenance, its customers have come to expect excellence in all company offerings. Through the use of Arbortext’s Epic software, Siemens will be able to create and deliver operation and service information tailored to address each customer’s unique building requirements.” About Arbortext Arbortext is the only global provider of XML-based software that enables the creation, editing and publishing of information to multiple media types – Web, print, CD-ROM, wireless – from a single source of content.
