SoftQuad XMetaL Selected by Cisco Systems To Create XML Content

Toronto, ON – July 23, 2001 – SoftQuad Software, Ltd. (OTC BB: SXML), an 
internationally recognized developer of XML-enabling technologies, today 
announced that Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) has signed an agreement 
to license SoftQuad XMetaL. The agreement, valued at approximately US$1 
million, includes software licenses, technical support, and professional 
consulting and customization services.

Cisco joins over 2000 companies, including Continental Airlines, Deutsche 
Bank, Daimler-Chrysler and Schlumberger, who have chosen XMetaL for XML 
content creation.  XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a World Wide Web 
standard for structured document formatting and online information 
exchange. XML enables organizations to share and re-use information across 
all e-business functions within the enterprise and with outside entities 
such as partners, customers and suppliers.

SoftQuad XMetaL is an XML editor and platform for creating interfaces that 
enable everyone within an organization to create XML content. XMetaL can be 
seamlessly integrated into content management and other e-business 
applications.
