Subject: Bowstreet announces new version of Business Web Factory
Bowstreet announces new version of product that enables mainstream enterprise customers to immediately begin transition to dynamic web services Business Web Factory 4 integrates with e-business middleware and applications from BEA, IBM, Microsoft, PeopleSoft, SAP, Sun Microsystems and others LYNNFIELD, MA, July 30, 2001 - Bowstreet (www.bowstreet.com) today announced the availability of the Bowstreet(tm) Business Web Factory 4, which enables enterprises to extend the value of their e-business middleware, applications servers, enterprise platforms and data through dynamic web services automation and assembly. New enhancements to the Business Web Factory 4 additionally slash administration costs, deepen standards support and make developers more productive. The Business Web Factory also powers Bowstreet's Business Web Portals that speed development and deployment of massively customizable portals. The Business Web Factory 4 includes new interoperability with the latest XML web services standards; with high-performance application servers, e-business middleware and enterprise applications from BEA Systems, IBM, Microsoft, PeopleSoft, SAP, Sun Microsystems and others; and with web usage analysis software. The Business Web Factory enables point-and-click legacy systems connectivity and web services assembly and automation, so developers don't have to code these functions line by line. "Web services are rapidly maturing as an e-business foundation, and the Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 proves it with performance, standards support and interoperability with the leading technology platforms," said Bob Crowley, Bowstreet's president and CEO. "Bowstreet leverages enterprise applications to bring data and processes into dynamic web service composites that serve the needs of key constituencies." "The Bowstreet Business Web Factory has automated web services assembly and deployment from the start," said Kate Fessenden, research director, Enterprise XML, for the Aberdeen Group in Boston, Mass. "This product brings automation to an entirely new level by making virtually every step of the development process, including legacy systems connectivity and customization, a point-and-click undertaking. Bowstreet is confirming its status as a web services thought leader." Web services are Internet-resident software components that Bowstreet, BEA Systems, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun Microsystems and their customers are embracing as the future of Internet business. The Bowstreet Business Web Factory combines web services into customized e-business applications that non-technical business people can update and maintain, slashing the cost and time-to-market of e-business initiatives. New platform support: The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 provides out-of-the-box support for the BEA WebLogic(R) E-Business Platform and Sun Microsystems' Java(TM) 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM), reducing the costs of owning, deploying and administering the Factory. Also added is support for Microsoft Active Directory. When deployed on BEA WebLogic Server(TM) 6.0, the world's number-one Java technology-based application server, Bowstreet harnesses the platform's scalability, security, logging, session management and administration features. Customers save money by deploying and administering the Factory and WebLogic servers as a unified combination. Bowstreet will announce integration with other leading application servers later this year. Support for Microsoft Active Directory is now available, in addition to support for LDAP standard-compliant directory servers from iPlanet(TM) and Novell. Bowstreet uses directories to store web services application ("business web") models, user profiles and their metadata. The Business Web Factory now uses Sun Microsystems' J2EE-standard file directory structures and configuration scheme so that J2EE technology shops can avoid the time and cost of manual configuration. Customers who are upgrading to Business Web Factory 4 still have the option to preserve the Factory's original installation architecture. Web services XML standards support: The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 adds support for six web services and XML standards that make web services useful and interoperable across platforms. These standards include: · Web Services Description Language (WSDL). The Business Web Factory is the first dynamic web services assembly system to automatically consume web services defined by WSDL. · Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). Enhanced SOAP support makes the Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 fully compliant with one of the industry's most important specifications for web services interoperability. · SAX, DOM and JDOM. The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 natively understands and processes three application program interfaces (APIs) for developers using XML in their applications. Productivity Enhancements: The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 makes developers more productive as they bring legacy data, applications and services to the Internet through new point-and-click development capabilities. Legacy systems connectivity. For the first time, developers can point and click to capture, consume and massively customize legacy systems functionality in SAP and PeopleSoft applications as well as in MQSeries cross-platform messaging middleware from IBM. Point-and-click connectivity particularly benefits companies that lack an enterprise application integration (EAI) platform such as those of Bowstreet partners BEA Systems, SeeBeyond, TIBCO Software Inc. and webMethods Inc. Also with Business Web Factory 4, developers can now natively access and make use of CORBA and COM objects as components in their web services applications using point-and-click adaptive integration connectivity from Bowstreet partner Actional Corporation. Point-and-click Builder creation. Builders are patent-pending components that automate the process of customized business web application creation, including calling web services wherever they may reside. The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 includes a new Builder Creation Wizard that lets developers create new builders simply by pointing and clicking, enabling them to spend more time and effort on other projects. Performance. The Bowstreet Business Web Factory has met the scalability challenge that the world's most important e-business applications demand. Recent Sun Microsystems tests demonstrate that Bowstreet scales without performance degradation through 8,000 concurrent users on 10 servers, as well as 4,800 concurrent users on a single 24-CPU Sun server. Web services usage analysis software. The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 now works with web usage analysis products like NetIQ WebTrends and NetGenesis to give companies information on how customers, partners and suppliers are using web services and multi-company business webs. This data gives companies the information they need to modify customer profiles and to modify web sites to drive more successful sales, support and marketing. Command line administration and management. Business Web Factory administrators now have the option of using their operating system's command line, in addition to the Factory's graphical user interface, to automate the upgrading and modification of Bowstreet Business Web Factory and web services applications. Bowstreet the foundation for web services apps: The Bowstreet Business Web Factory 4 is the foundation of Bowstreet's Business Web Portal Solutions and an entire stable of emerging, packaged web services applications for e-business initiatives such as eCRM, syndicated storefronts, corporate intranets, partner extranets and supply chain collaboration. Bowstreet eliminates the time and cost of developing and managing monolithic, hard-coded e-business applications requiring multiple development platforms.
