Subject: [announce] OASIS Member News: VordelSecure released at RSA Conference- Product addresses necessity

February 19 2002 - San Jose, Calif. - Vordel, the Web services
security company, today announced the release of VordelSecure, the XML
security framework, at the RSA Security Conference in San Jose.

A new wave of XML-enabled software is currently being deployed in the
marketplace. These products create new efficiencies, but also new
security challenges. VordelSecure addresses these challenges directly,
by ensuring that all XML-communications into an enterprise pass
through a rigorous set of credential checks. This protects
organizations from the new types of security attacks that are now
possible by XML and Web Services.

In addition to credential checking, VordelSecure creates a
digitally-signed audit trail, which is an increasing requirement for
systems both behind and outside the firewall.

"VordelSecure uses technologies such as SOAP and digital signatures,
implemented in a vendor-neutral fashion. The focus is on speed, to
ensure that security is not a performance bottleneck for Web
services", said Mark O'Neill, CTO at Vordel.

Gartner Inc. estimates that by 2005, IT development projects that use
Web services will enjoy a 30 percent increase in efficiency. "However,
a key issue impeding the adoption of Web services is the potential
threat posed to security", said Vic Wheatman, Vice President and
Research Area Director, Gartner. "Software vendors must address the
needs of companies seeking to bolster this expansion of XML technology
with security specifically designed for Web services."

"VordelSecure can be used to guard against attacks on Web Services
which take place at the data level. Security for SOAP involves not
just cryptography, but also inspection of message content," O'Neill
said. "Whilst SOAP allows legitimate business partners free entry to
remotely activate code and exchange information, it also opens the
door to unwelcome attacks."

Commenting on the new release, Annrai O'Toole, CEO of Web Services
software vendor Cape Clear Software, said that "Web services provide a
universal framework for linking together disparate IT systems and
applications. This singular value proposition is set to drive
adoption of Web Services faster than any previous development model,
bar none.

"As companies build out Web Services both inside the firewall and on
the Internet they need additional qualities of service," continued
O'Toole. "Vordel's focus on the provision of Web Services security
provides a tailored framework that meets the specific demands of what
is a new design center."
