Arbortext Epic Editor 4.3 Eases Implementation and Usage of Multichannel Publishing Software Version 4.3 supports XML Schemas, Publishing Pipeline, XUI, XSL-FO and ActiveX ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 6, 2002 -- Arbortext, Inc., the only global provider of XML-based multichannel publishing software, today announced that its upcoming release of Epic Editor version 4.3 will provide significant improvements for designers, developers and business users who want to deliver dynamic content while lowering costs. In addition to several authoring enhancements, Epic Editor version 4.3 will contain new or improved support for XML Schemas, Publishing Pipeline, XUI, XSL-FO and ActiveX. ”It’s increasingly important for organizations to cut the cost and time of creating, reusing and sharing information while delivering more dynamic content on more types of media,” said Michael Maziarka, Director at CAP Ventures. “Arbortext’s focus on simplifying the development and usage of such applications represents the next logical step in the evolution of technology in this category.” ”Epic Editor already provides the greatest breadth and depth of functionality and standards support,” said Jim Sterken, vice president of engineering for Arbortext. “In the 4.3 release, we’re further extending our standards support while also simplifying content creation and applications development.” Epic Editor 4.3 contains the following enhancements: · XML Schemas. Offers improvements in validation over Document Type Definitions (DTDs) such as datatyping for content validation, local data models, and wildcards in datatype definitions. XML Schema is a current W3C Recommendation. · FileNET compatibility: Epic Editor 4.3 provides integration with FileNET’s Panagon Content Services. · Simplified toolbar. Offers a set of familiar toolbar icons that a developer can easily associate with specific XML tags, attributes and attribute values. · Real-time spelling check. Gives authors the option of seeing spelling mistakes immediately and fixing those mistakes on the spot. · Publishing Pipeline. Provides the developer with an easier, faster way to configure, customize and extend publishing processes. The Publishing Pipeline is derived from the XML Pipeline W3C Submission. · XUI. The XML User Interface (XUI) lets developers easily create dynamic dialog boxes that respond to changing conditions and prompt for appropriate information based on those changes. · XSL-FO. Arbortext is improving and extending its support for XSL’s Formatting Objects (XSL-FO), which allows for the specification of professional publishing applications that require high-quality typography and a fine degree of formatting control and functionality. XSL is a W3C Recommendation for stylesheets for XML information. · ActiveX. Enables Epic Editor to incorporate other applications to extend its capabilities. Provides easier configuration and customization for developers and business users as they work with MathML (for equations), SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) and forms created in Visual Basic. Availability Epic Editor 4.3 will ship Summer, 2002. All Arbortext customers under maintenance are eligible to receive the Epic Editor 4.3 upgrade at no charge, and the upgrade will be automatically shipped to them.
