XML ACCELERATION PRODUCT REVIEW HIGHLIGHTS DATAPOWER'S LEAD IN XSLT Leading Publication Says DataPower's XML Accelerator Provides "XML Translations with a Kick" CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-October 30, 2002-DataPower Technology, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent XML-aware network infrastructure, today announced the results of a Network Computing Magazine review of the DataPower XA35 XML AcceleratorT. The XA35 was tested against leading XSLT engines commonly used by today's developers for XML applications. Network Computing's review noted "record time" transformations using DataPower's XA35 leaving other XSLT engines "in the dust." Today's enterprises are turning to XML to integrate and share their data applications across the entire enterprise and beyond. However, XML is extremely verbose and its use often results in poor performing applications. DataPower's XA35 is a first-of-its-kind network device purpose built to process XML at wire speed and delivers a uniform platform for XML-enabled applications. With the XA35 enterprises are able to successfully integrate varied applications and deploy sophisticated Web Services with significantly lower costs and higher performance levels than with general-purpose devices. For the XSLT review, Network Computing's technology editor Lori MacVittie deployed the XA35 in the publication's Green Bay, Wisconsin RealWorld LabsR using large XML files served by an Apache Web server and a Caw Networks WebAvalanche device to simulate Web users. Processing the XML and associated XSL, the XA35 easily outperformed the commonly used Apache Xalan XSLT engine taking the XA35 only 1.8 seconds to transform the XML versus 132 seconds for Xalan. Further, Xalan attempted 43 transactions in 3.5 minutes, but served only 13 transformations successfully, while DataPower's XA35 "was able to attempt 1,292 transactions in the same time period, failing to successfully process only one." In summary, Network Computing notes that their test results "gives credence to DataPower's claims that the XA35 provides huge performance gains over software-based XSLT engines." About the DataPower XA35 XML Accelerator The XA35 bridges the widening gap between network hardware and application software and is designed for easy deployment in the enterprise datacenter, either alongside application servers or as a proxy directly in front of Web infrastructure. Benefits include: . Unmatched performance - The XA35 accelerates XML processing by ten times (10X) or more. Increased throughput and decreased latency improves application efficiency for end users. . Unparalleled scalability - New e-business applications experience spikes in demand from global customers that force costly and inefficient server over-provisioning. Only the XA35 reduces costs and the need for capacity planning by providing the XML processing power of ten (10) servers in a 1U rack mountable network device. . Uniform Infrastructure - The XA35 is the industry's first XML-Aware network device to enable capacity sharing across multiple applications. The resulting standards-compliant architecture greatly eases application development and slashes deployment times by reducing the need for debugging in the XML execution environment. . Easy Installation - The XA35 is a self-learning network device that doesn't require any custom code, XSL stylesheets or application programming interfaces. Designed for seamless integration, the XA35 requires no changes to existing network infrastructure. . High Reliability - Because the XA35 is a purpose-built network device and not a server, it is extremely reliable. In the unlikely event that a unit fails, the XA35 supports integrated device failover ensuring that XML processing is always available for mission critical business applications. . Full Standards Compliance - The XA35 is field proven and has been tested against the industry's largest collection of XML and XSL files. The XA35 fully supports XML 1.0, XSLT 1.0 and XPath 1.0. . Leading IDE Support - The XA35 provides integration support with leading IDEs like Altova's XML Spy. Availability and Pricing The XA35 XML Accelerator is commercially available today. Pricing for the XA35 XML Accelerator starts at $54,995.
