Subject: [announce] OASIS Member News: Elsevier Science selects eXtyles fromInera for editorial system
November 8, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elsevier Science selects eXtyles from Inera for editorial system. Newton, MA, November 8, 2002 – Inera, Inc., one of the leading providers of editorial and XML production software for the publishing industry today announced that Elsevier Life Sciences, London, has chosen eXtyles as their primary automated content editing solution for two major journal families and related web products. Working with the world's most respected scientists and researchers, Elsevier Science has set a high standard for quality. Its publications are written by international scholars with excellent technical and scientific credentials, and wide research and teaching experience in their fields. eXtyles is a suite of editorial, production and XML tools for Microsoft Word that has been specifically designed to automate the styling, formatting and XML production of scholarly journals. eXtyles automates many of the time consuming tasks faced by editors, allowing them to focus on content and work more efficiently. eXtyles provides a bridge between editorial departments, who need easy to use tools, and production departments, who increasingly need XML for web and print production. Elsevier Life Sciences, London, will use eXtyles in the editing and production of the Current Opinion and Trends journal families, two of the most prestigious and widely circulated scientific journals they produce. According to Daniel Smith, Publishing Services Director at ES Life Sciences in London, “When a manuscript comes in from the author, it requires standardisation and formatting. eXtyles is used in this context to apply specific House Style rules, without the need for the meticulous (but often error-prone) 'handwork' which copy editing has in the past required. Copy can now be prepared incorporating standard terms, fully marked-up references, tables etc which need not be checked at a further stage in the process (e.g. by iterative proofreading). This allows editorial staff to concentrate on less mundane activities, whilst handing off clean content for structuring more rapidly and with fewer steps in the workflow. This is of significant benefit in article-based operations, where early publication online is often seen as beneficial by the author. In addition, the potential for automated layout of print product can be realised, even with relatively complex publications." “We’re delighted that Elsevier Science in London has chosen eXtyles for their scientific publishing needs”, said Inera CEO Bruce Rosenblum, “it validates our customer-centric approach of providing specialized solutions to exactly meet our customer requirements”. -MORE- Inera, Inc., has been providing specialized SGML and XML solutions to the technical publishing industry for over 10 years. Inera’s product suite, eXtyles, is an integrated set of editorial and XML tools for Microsoft Word that automates editorial and XML production processes. eXtyles is employed in the production of over 150 prestigious journals. Inera’s customers include Kluwer Academic Press, Cell Press, European Union Office of Publications, Rockefeller University and the National Research Council of Canada.
