DATAPOWER AND ROUTEONE PAVE THE WAY FOR SECURE WEB SERVICES IN MAJOR AUTOMOBILE CREDIT NETWORK DaimlerChrysler Services, Ford Motor Credit Company, GMAC and Toyota Financial Services Venture Selects World's Fastest XML Web Services Security Gateway to Enable Online Credit Applications CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-January, 13, 2003 - DataPower Technology Inc., the leading provider of intelligent XML-aware network infrastructure, today announced that RouteOne LLC, the joint venture formed by DaimlerChrysler Services, Ford Motor Credit Company, GMAC and Toyota Financial Services, has selected the DataPower XS40 XML Security GatewayT to secure its innovative online credit application management system. (See associated announcement "DataPower Technology Delivers World's Fastest XML Web Services Security Gateway," January 13, 2003) Using DataPower's XS40, RouteOne will demonstrate that robust, next-generation XML-based applications can be securely built and efficiently deployed, thereby delivering the promised business benefits of XML Web Services. DaimlerChrysler Services, Ford Motor Credit Company, GMAC and Toyota Financial Services formed RouteOne to provide a Web-based credit application management system for automobile dealers and the auto finance industry at large. RouteOne will provide a common platform for the exchange of credit application and decision information between automobile dealers and their finance sources, increasing efficiencies for both by dramatically streamlining the credit application process. The system will also benefit consumers by giving dealers more auto financing choices and a faster approval process. Because of XML's power and flexibility, RouteOne decided to base its online system on XML and SOAP Web services technologies. After initial security testing, RouteOne determined that software-based solutions introduced unacceptable processing overhead and would not scale to meet RouteOne's security and performance needs. Following extensive testing, RouteOne found that XS40 outperformed competing solutions by a significant margin. As such, the XS40 was selected for its ability to provide robust security without any performance degradation. "RouteOne is designed to process a very high number of credit applications per day. Security and performance were important considerations in our selection of DataPower. This is due to the sensitive nature of the information contained in credit applications and because of the sheer volume," said Joel Gruber, chief information officer of RouteOne. "DataPower's XS40 delivers the performance required for comprehensive XML security functions, meaning that we will not have to sacrifice performance for protection." - more - "RouteOne's decision is incredible validation for DataPower's XS40 product vision and mature XG3T technology," said Eugene Kuznetsov, founder, president and CTO at DataPower Technology, Inc. "With the huge performance edge of XG3, there's no need to choose between performance and security. DataPower's practical approach to XML Web Services security overcomes the largest barrier to real-world XML Web Services deployment. RouteOne's online credit application management system will prove the tangible business benefits of XML Web Services." Industry Support for RouteOne/DataPower Standards Implementation: World Wide Web Consortium (W3C): "Standard mechanisms to guarantee the integrity and privacy of XML data are critical to the adoption of Web Services - both for higher level specifications and applications alike," explained Joseph Reagle, W3C's XML Signature and XML Encryption Activity Lead. "Through the implementation of the IETF/W3C XML Signature Recommendation, the W3C Encryption Recommendation, the latest version of W3C's SOAP 1.2, and of course, XML itself, DataPower is using W3C specifications to put Web Services to work, large scale, and in real time." Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS): "OASIS is excited to see RouteOne's implementation of the WS-Security draft for their mission-critical application and DataPower's commitment to support OASIS specifications like WS-Security and SAML," said Patrick Gannon, president and CEO of OASIS. "Together RouteOne and DataPower are demonstrating a real-world utility of the OASIS work with their network-level approach to providing centralized security policy management." Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I): "The Web Services Interoperability Organization ("WS-I") is committed to making interoperable Web services a reality," said Tom Glover, chairman and president of WS-I. "WS-I is pleased to see DataPower and RouteOne working to make secure and interoperable Web services real."
