Subject: [announce] DataPower Broadens Its XML Networking for Government Initiative with SAIC Reseller Agreement

Title: [announce] DataPower Broadens Its XML Networking for Government Initiative with SAIC Reseller Agreement

DATAPOWER BROADENS ITS XML NETWORKING FOR GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE WITH SAIC RESELLER AGREEMENT

Leading Government Systems Provider Can Leverage DataPower's XML-Aware Networking (XAN) for Homeland Security and Government XML Web Services Applications

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Tuesday, August 5, 2003 - DataPower Technology, Inc. - the leading provider of intelligent XML-Aware Network infrastructure - announced today that it has signed a reseller agreement for the DataPower XS40 XML Security Gateway(tm) and the DataPower XA35 XML Accelerator(tm) with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to further expand DataPower's programs with government agencies for robust Web Service security and the fastest XML application performance.  Further, SAIC has purchased and plans to deploy DataPower's XS40 XML Security Gateway to support a major federal department's Web Services security initiative.

"DataPower has seen tremendous growth for Web Service and XML applications within all levels of the Federal and State governments and that has drawn considerable demand for our leading XML Web Service security and XML acceleration network infrastructure," said Jim Ricotta, president and CEO at DataPower Technology Inc.  "Now assisting to meet this demand, SAIC can help DataPower to augment our support for Government customers."

SAIC, a Fortune 500® company and ranked as the largest employee-owned research and engineering firm in the nation, solves complex technical problems in national and homeland security, energy, the environment, telecommunications, health care, transportation and logistics.

"SAIC consistently strives to provide cost effective and technologically advanced solutions," said Steve Rizzi, SAIC corporate vice president.  "We see a role for DataPower's product line in our complex system integration efforts which involve high volumes of XML data.  In particular, DataPower's XML products are well suited as an adjunct to our TeraText(tm) Database System for managing very large scale XML problems."

"We've seen customers varying from federal departments of agriculture, to state departments of revenue, to federal environmental exchange networks all using XML and Web Services to address their critical initiatives and programs, most notably homeland security.  Because XML and Web Service applications are inherently hard to process and insecure, it is critical that the difficult tasks of XML and XML Web Service security processing move to XML-Aware Networking devices like DataPower where processing power and security intelligence is abundant," says Eugene Kuznetsov, chairman and CTO at DataPower Technology Inc.  "With SAIC's depth, expertise and technological understanding around XML and Web Service security issues, DataPower hopes to achieve greater success with government organization."

Today's reseller agreement is part of DataPower's overall XML Networking for Government initiatives to support government agencies with their Web Service security and XML application projects.  DataPower's XML Networking for Government also includes DataPower's Free XML Web Services security program (See associated news announcement issued today from DataPower: "DataPower Offers Government Agencies a No cost, No Obligation XML Web Services Security Immersion Program".)

DataPower's XML-Aware Networking Products
*         XS40 Security Gateway: Powered by DataPower's XG3(tm) technology providing the fastest XML processing in the world, the XS40 is a diskless networking device built to provide complete XML security with the wirespeed performance necessary for robust applications. The XS40 is designed with broadest security intelligence and functionality including XML/SOAP firewall, parsing, filtering, access control, schema validation, digital signatures, and encryption of field-level XML content for all XML Web Service message flows.  Other features include SAML, XACML, XKMS, LDAP, and RADIUS compliance as well as XML/SOAP routing, SSL acceleration, service virtualization, and centralized policy management.

*         XA35 XML Accelerator: Using the same XG3 technology, the XA35 is a diskless networking device designed to offload burdensome XML processing from resource-constrained servers.  The XA35 delivers order-of-magnitude performance and scalability improvements to XML-based applications, and seamlessly integrates into existing networks within hours without the need to augment existing application code.
