IDEAlliance is launching the new TechDoc Community of Practice (CoP) in an effort co-sponsored by Antenna House, Arbortext, Architag International, Astoria Software, Data Conversion Laboratory, Empolis, Exegenix, Valley Forge Technical Information Services and XyEnterprise. Brian Travis, Chief Technical Officer of Architag International and Chairman of the TechDoc CoP, explains the goal of the community: “We want to create a forum to represent the technology user/buyer in the technical documentation community. The CoP will provide for two-way communication between users and technology vendors and those creating the documentation standards. This creates a win-win situation. Users can share knowledge, develop best practices, have input into standards and specs, and assure interoperability of publishing tools. For vendors, the win is better products, more informed buyers, and a shortened sales cycle.” “To kick off the new CoP, we are hosting online community events that make use of audio web-conferencing technology. We’ll follow this up by providing program content and networking opportunities for those in the TechDoc community throughout the XML 2003 Conference,” says Kennedy.
