Patent Adds to DataPower's Growing Portfolio of Intellectual Property
Resulting from More than Five Years of Innovation; Enables Wirespeed XML

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - August 10, 2004 DataPower, the most widely deployed
provider of intelligent XML-aware network devices, announced today that
the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has awarded the
company a patent covering its core technology. Filed in 1999, patent #
6,772,413 covers the use of compiler techniques and dynamic code
generation for data transformation, including XML processing. The
innovations are already key building blocks of DataPower's award-winning
products: XS40 XML Security Gateway, XA35 XML Accelerator and XI50

patent is another XML networking industry first by DataPower.

The unique compiler-centric technology covered by the patent includes
both XML-specific embodiments such as an XSLT compiler or an optimized
XPath engine, as well as methods for general-purpose data interchange
between arbitrary data formats using format descriptors. The patented
technology is a critical and necessary building block of any solution
designed to deliver high performance Web services security or XML
acceleration. It enables DataPower's XG3 & XG4 XML processing technology
and DataGlue universal translation engine to deliver wire-speed
performance.
