DataPower Expands Management Team to Address Growing Demand for
Embeddable XML-Aware Networking

Madhavan Vasudevan Joins DataPower to Focus on Strategic OEMs for
DataPower's XG4 Gigabit Performance XML Processing Subsystem

CAMBRIDGE, MASS -- February 21, 2005 -- DataPower(r), the original
creator and leading provider of intelligent XML-Aware Network (XAN)
hardware, announced today that Madhavan Vasudevan has joined the Company
as Senior Director of Business Development. Dr. Vasudevan will manage
DataPower's rapidly growing activities with leading networking, server,
application and security vendors evaluating DataPower's Fourth
Generation XML chipset for embedding Web services security and XML
acceleration throughout both the datacenter and the carrier networks.

DataPower XG4 subsystems offer OEMs field-proven, patented XML
processing technology in a broad range of form factors, speed ratings
and features. The XG4 architecture combines DataPower's custom XML
silicon, off-the-shelf components and proprietary driver software to
perform XPath and XML Schema validation directly in hardware. The XG4
product family allows OEMs, such as network vendors or blade server
manufacturers, to embed XML Web Services security in traditional
firewalls or security switches, to include SOAP load balancing in server
load balancers, and to deliver XML acceleration and XML routing in
traditional IP routers or blade servers.

"As DataPower continues to deliver on the strong end-user demand for our
XML-aware networking technology with our award-winning enterprise
devices, we are seeing tremendous growth in interest from partners in
our OEM technology. Madhavan's years of technology experience and
intricate knowledge of the security market is a great match for better
developing those relationships," said Jim Ricotta, CEO and president at
DataPower.

Before joining DataPower, Vasudevan led the enterprise research effort
at Sand Hill Group, an investment and management research firm focused
on the enterprise software, services and solutions market. At Sand Hill,
Vasudevan worked closely with the firm's founder, M.R. Rangaswami, and
recently authored a report titled A Blueprint for Enterprise Security:
Execution Strategies from Industry Visionaries. The report presented
insight gained from in-depth interviews with security decision makers
(CISOs/CIOs) at large organizations, including two large federal
agencies and half of the Global CSO Council.

Previously, Vasudevan directed product management and marketing for two
technology firms: Jarna, an enterprise wireless middleware company that
was acquired by Visto, and Gigabeat, a personalization company
specializing in digital-media delivery that was acquired by Napster.
Vasudevan holds a masters degree in computer science from Stanford
University, a doctorate in biochemical engineering from Rutgers
University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India.

"At Sand Hill I helped enterprises develop a blue print for creating and
managing world-class information security organizations. As the leading
innovator in XML Web services security, performance and integration,
DataPower's stellar team and unique breadth of solutions exemplifies
what is needed to build a compelling, low-risk business case for XML and
Web services," said Dr. Vasudevan. "Bringing these capabilities to
market with other leading networking, application and security vendors
is essential in helping organizations to capture the huge benefits of
service-oriented architectures (SOA's) and enable them to shift from
simple packet networking to intelligent and efficient XML-aware
networking."
