Layer 7 Technologies Expands XML Offload and Acceleration Offering
In Partnership with Silicon Vendor Tarari, Layer 7 adds Dedicated XML
Transformation to SecureSpan XML Gateway
Orlando, FL, Gartner Application Integration and Web Services Summit -
December 5, 2005

Acceleration and security of XML is a primary concern for end-users
deploying Web services and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA). Up to
now, end-users have had to deploy separate XML Gateways to address XML
security and XML transformation acceleration. Layer 7 Technologies Inc.
has teamed with Tarari Inc., the market-leading XML silicon vendor, to
integrate hardware based XSL Transforms (XSLT) acceleration into its
SecureSpan line of accelerated XML Gateway and Firewall products.

"As companies build these (SOA) networks, demand has increased for
mechanisms that make them simple to manage and secure," said Daniel
Sholler, Research VP at Gartner Inc. "This should give customers with
high XML volumes and complex configurations a more manageable package."

The Layer 7 SecureSpan Gateway is the only XML security and acceleration
appliance to combine 64-bit performance, with Layer 7's patent-pending
FastPath(tm) XML stream processing technology and content processor
silicon from Tarari to deliver comprehensive XML security and
performance for operations like XPath, Schema Validation and XSLT in a
single form factor.

"Companies today are rapidly adopting Service-Oriented Architecture
(SOA) and Web Services technologies and approaches to solve their
lingering issues around agility, integration cost, and reuse of assets,"
said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst with ZapThink, LLC. "However, these
approaches impose significant and consistent load on their existing
application server and middleware-based infrastructure. Integrating
security and XSLT acceleration in a single XML-based gateway eliminates
cost and complexity for end-users contemplating the most effective and
efficient way to deploy such solutions."

Together, Layer 7 and Tarari offer unparalleled performance and
flexibility for addressing complex Web services security and
acceleration functions including credential mapping, message filtering,
XML threat detection, schema validation and data translation. Through a
combination of Layer 7's FastPath and Tarari's RAX technology, each XML
acceleration operation is specifically optimized down to a subsystem
level in silicon.

"Customers require integrated XML security and performance in their
application-oriented networking devices to reduce internal operating
costs and better manage their infrastructure," said Toufic Boubez, CTO
of Layer 7 Technologies. "Working with Tarari, we are able provide our
end-users the first integrated XML Gateway that combines hardware
accelerated security and XML transformation."

"Our partnership with Layer 7 has focused on leveraging best-in-class
technologies to solve critical XML performance issues," said Randy
Smerik, president and CEO of Tarari, Inc. "With the addition of
dedicated XSLT offload to existing XPath and Schema Validation silicon
acceleration, Layer 7 is able to provide customers a broad range of XML
performance options."
