LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee Nominations Now Open

OASIS members:
 
Two 'at-large' seats serving a 'one-year term' on the OASIS LegalXML Member
Section (MS) Steering Committee [1] is up for election. 

The OASIS LegalXML Member Section produces technical specifications that
support implementation of XML technology in the legal system for use by all
who have a stake in electronic legal documents, records, and information
exchanges. The LegalXML Member Section engages legal document creators,
vendors, academics, and users in a legal community in defining requirements,
drafting and reviewing the specifications. If you aren't currently active in
the LegalXML Member Section, now is a great time to join.

The nomination and election procedures for the Steering Committee are
defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [2] and the LegalXML
Member Section Rules of Procedure [3]. 

Any LegalXML MS participant [4] may nominate or be nominated as a candidate
for the Steering Committee. Any OASIS member may join the LegalXML MS [5].

The "At Large" LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee members will be
nominated and elected by Member Section Qualified Electors. The LegalXML
Member Section Qualified Electors are those Eligible Persons who are either
an Individual Member Section Supporting Entity or an employee or designee of
an organizational Member Section Supporting Entity, who subscribes to the
Member Section email list. An organizational Member Section Supporting
Entity may have more than one Qualified Elector. Please contact

affiliation with the LegalXML MS.


NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE 

Nominations will be held 19-December-2009 through 8-January-2009. 

The election will be held 11-January-2010 through 25-January-2010. 


NOMINATION PROCESS 

Any LegalXML MS participant may nominate a candidate via email to:
nominations@oasis-open.org. 

Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must: 

1. Accept the nomination;

2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position
(participation in a one-hour teleconference each month, promote the work of
the Member Section, etc).

3. Provide background information and a position statement describing
his/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the Steering
Committee; and

4. Be a participant in the LegalXML Member Section. 


ELECTION PROCESS 

The new Steering Committee members will be selected by the LegalXML MS
Qualified Electors, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process -
Scottish Method [6]. STV considers each voter's ranked preference for
candidates, in order to more accurately reflect the wishes of the
electorate. 

We encourage all LegalXML participants to consider serving
on the Steering Committee. Please contact (member-services@oasis-open.org)
