Using WSDL terminology, these are "PortTypes" and a given resource can implement more than one port type. A port type merely defines a set of operations that a resource implements. It should not be unusual for one service instance to be an observer of another service instance.

and service instances there are just called "services", though they can
be more or less transitory.
I've been trying to think of factory/observer/instance as simply roles
for resources rather than
as a single type...
