Subject: [autorepair] SC2-018 on behalf of Autodata

Dear Technical Committee members

You will have received document SC2-018, issued following a SC2 sub
committee meeting held on January 9th 2003. The document was subsequently
withdrawn from the document list after a request from Autodata to have it
removed.

There can be no doubt that its content is a marketing and sales document
created by Vivid. I believe that the submission and subsequent release of
this type of document oversteps the boundary of what should be allowed as a
submission within the OASIS document procedure.

The document is also objectionable because it is offensive and defamatory
about the products of members of the Technical Committee. The reason for
issuing and releasing SC2-018 to sub-committee members (some of whom are
Autodata customers) can only have been to discredit member companies of the
Independent Publishers within OASIS.

Vivid does not contribute to the OASIS project as an Independent Publisher,
as implied by the minutes of the January 9th 2003 SC2 meeting, and should
not therefore be permitted to make submissions. Members will no doubt
remember that in July of last year Autodata was directed by AFCAR and
CLEDIPA to join the OASIS project in its own right.

I therefore call on AFCAR, CLEDIPA and the chair of the OASIS technical
committee to do the following:

1. To apply even-handed standards,
2. To bar the use of sales and marketing material in presentations except in
certain agreed circumstances and
3. To consider whether the committee member who submitted this document on
behalf of another company should continue to attend Technical Committee
meetings.

I am sure all fellow members of the Technical Committee will share my
concern over the content of SC2-018 as well as the failure in the document
process which permitted its submission to sub-committee members.
