Subject: Minutes of BDXR TC meeting 28 November 2012

MEETING MINUTES OF BDXR TC MEETING 28 NOVEMBER 2012

ATTENDANCE

Jens Aabol
Roger Bass
Kenneth Bengtsson (chair)
Pim van der Eijk
Sander Fieten
Giorgia Lodi
Dale Moberg
Alfio Raia
Sven Rasmussen
Susanne Wigard

METADATA SERVICE (CPP/CPA/SMP) DATA FORMATS

Pim suggested that we open up for working on XML metadata formats and volunteered to commence work on this. Since one of the candidate formats (CPA/CPP) is developed in the ebCore TC, Pim furthermore suggested that the ebCore TC focus on the core data model and that BDXR work on providing requirements and profiles. This was agreed.

ARCHITECTURE COMPONENTS CONTINUED / RESUME OF CONFERENCE CALL

Sander and Roger had a conference call to continue last meeting's discussion of the components diagram made by Sander. An important finding of the call was that different use and understanding of terminology is the cause of misunderstandings, especially with reference to “metadata”.

TERMINOLOGY

Roger had proposed to use “Profile” instead of “Metadata” to align with terminology of existing communities and to avoid confusion (see: https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/bdxr/201211/msg00009.html).

There was a general discussion about whether “Profile” may be ambiguous since it is also used on protocol level to describe a transport mechanism (i.e. a Web Services profile). It was agreed to individually review the Terminology page (https://wiki.oasis-open.org/bdxr/Terminology) and put on the agenda for next meeting to agree on final definitions and terminology.

PEPPOL DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED

PEPPOL has officially submitted their specifications to the TC:

START protocol:
It was agreed to start a TC Specification Draft based on the document submitted by PEPPOL. Kenneth will request a starter document from OASIS and begin the process. The original PEPPOL document is available here:
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=47490&wg_abbrev=bdxr

LIME protocol:
It was agreed to start a TC Specification Draft based on the document submitted by PEPPOL. Kenneth will request a starter document from OASIS and begin the process. The original PEPPOL document is available here:
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=47487&wg_abbrev=bdxr

SMP:
We had a general discussion about whether the current PEPPOL specification should be published as a version 1.0 TC draft, or if there is a need to have broader discussions about the metadata data model. One point of view was that there are still features and additions to the SMP data model (particularly with regards to dbms and to the Connect protocol) that need work and discussion, why a publication now may be premature. Another point of view was that the current SMP specification already has a significant user base whereas the planned work is still on the drawing board and can take quite some time still, why it may be more beneficial to publish a version 1.0 based on the specification currently in use, and publish new features and revised data model in a later version 1.1. It was agreed that Kenneth requests a starter document from OASIS and commences the specification, to be reviewed internally in the TC with specific attention to ebMS compatibility.

The original PEPPOL document is available here:
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=47489&wg_abbrev=bdxr

SML:
It was agreed that the SML specification will not be published as a TC draft as is, but will instead be edited into the new Metadata Service Location Discovery document, which Dale is working on. The original PEPPOL document is available here:
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=47488&wg_abbrev=bdxr
