PUBLISHING OF SMP 1.0 CS03

BDE 1.1 NEW PUBLIC REVIEW

JOINT CEFACT/BDXR PROJECT FOR DOCUMENT HEADER/ENVELOPE

Erlend brought up a question from a CEN TC evaluating the use of SMP with EDIFACT messages. In the SMP specification we have defined a single document identifier scheme, the QName/Subtype Identifier (QNS) designed to be used with XML type documents. The question was then asked how to use SMP with non-XML document types, such as EDIFACT. In SMP we state that it is outside the scope of the SMP specification to define document identifier schemes that may be valid in a given context, leaving it open for user communities to define themselves any identifier scheme relevant for their use of SMP. There is no requirement in SMP to use the QNS identifier scheme, nor is the specification restraining users from using SMP with non-XML documents.
