we could generate a BTP general FAULT for the last case, but we don't actually know where the message has come from, and they can't do anything about it except resend it. REDIRECT is basically a one-way message.
I disagree. I a resource is on a machine that is going out of service, it may be possible to delay said outage until the resource has been moved, though not for the duration of the transaction it was involved in. As such, it is necessary for the resource (or some intermediate) to know that the REDIRECT has been received and acted upon. So, an ack would be useful at the very least.
